Great purchase there. Nice color. Got some busy nights coming up. But hey, it's always fun making old guitars come alive! I also liked the 1972 Jag you had a picture of on ebay. I guess I'm an old-school guy. The only guitars I have purchased so far have been in a guitar store. I like to fiddle around with the guitar and test it out. That's why I sort of shy away from ebay. I'm starting to learn more about vintage guitars every day so maybe I can feel confident enough about the ebay possibility.

I am sorry I may start a flame war here  ...  but I don't have much time for cobain... yeah a couple of his songs I don't mind, although I wouldn't pay real folding money for them,  but more along the lines of the suicide thing.

It is a very selfish thing to do, suicide.  wife, kids , parents , friends that are left behind    and yeah yeah I know about depression and all that but far from being a missunderstood artist who dies for his music, he just comes across as a slightly self centred wanker.

please before the fireworks start  ... I am not attacking his music, only his method of resolving personal demons  (and maybe his crap design of the Jagstang)

Sookie, I'm right there with you for two out of the three!  I would (and have) paid folding money for his songs.  Suicide, I could take it or leave it.  I think it's like alcoholism, frankly.  I used to think alcoholics were just people that couldn't handle their booze, until I met two of them.  They have serious issues they just don't know how to deal with and maybe people that are suicidal just DON'T see any other way out.  People like to say that suicide is the coward's way out.  I'd have to disagree.  I know I wouldn't have the guts to off myself!
And, yes, that Jag-stang is just dog ugly!

Well, that tears it!  Since both Don Wilson AND Kurt Cobain both have the No-master headstocks, I'm leaving mine the way it is!!!!!

I actually played that guitar at the GC in Tempe a few weeks ago. Considered it as a project, too, but 24" scale lengths just aren't my thing, and I don't have $1200. I really liked the neck, very comfortable.

Yeah, like heroin dependency, due to an undiagnosed and untreated chronic condition. Can't say I care for his music too much, it's not my style; but you can certainly hear the burning pain in his voice and the music. His relapses into dependency on heroin made him unstable and (some would argue) dangerous. He was collecting guns in the weeks before his death; between that and courtney's obvious lack of maternal skills, one might argue that him not being in the picture might be the best thing for their kid. Not saying it was right for him to kill himself, but that's the drugs, chronic pain, and depression's cumulative effect.

Re: the decal

I think your decal is the same type they used on the guitars with black headstocks...  they might have been short of proper decals that day?

I reckon it was someone else's method of resolving personal demons. I don't think he committed suicide at all.

My turn to get flamed!!  :D

I think kurt cobain is/was awesome.

Like, almost Jimi Hendrix or John Coltrane or Miles Davis or Aretha Franklin awesome.  Like truly something special.

I've heard that Sonic Youth members believe he was murdered... which is interesting.

Hey Betty!

What you playing through as far as an amp with Arizona?

Do you think that was an original finish or was it a re-fin?

Just your opinions over the last few days?

I see there was a 1972 on guitar base that looked pretty good. Of course it's about two times the price as Arizona.

I do like the target bursts though.

Must be getting that darned trem arm from Guitar Center ... or they're still looking for the blasted thing.

Surf rules!

Good questions, SG!  In fact i've been meaning to start a thread about this, but I have to check it out first.  Normally, I play through a Vox Valvetronix, but one night a couple of weeks ago it wouldn't turn on all of a sudden.  I don't know if it's the power chord or what.  I'd have to go out and buy another chord to see since I don't have one like it around the house.  I've been using my first amp, a Line 6 Spider II, as a backup.  So I still haven't been able to hear Arizona through my favorite amp.
It was definitely the original finish, just faded in a weird way.  If you look at the pictures on the first two pages of this thread, you can see what's left of the original finish underneath the pickguard.
I'm REALLY liking this Jaguar!  I really lucked out with the neck.  It's not as worn in on the back as I had hoped, but that may be a good thing resale wise down the road.  I have no plans of getting rid of her, but I've said that about other guitars, too...  Plus, it looks like it had recent re-fret!  The pickups, though not original, I'm falling in love with.  I suspect they are Seymour Duncan's Hot for Jags.  They're thicker and mid-rangey-er like a bright humbucker, and then when I throw that thin switch on, they sound (to my ears anyway) what Jag pickups are supposed to sound like.  I'm very happy with them!
I like target  burst, as well.  That's why I wanted a late '60s early 70's Jag.  But I also like having unique guitars and, even though it's not some people's cup of tea, you have to admit the finish is unique!
As soon as I can get a pickguard on her, I'll post pictures of the whole thing.  And I keep forgetting to call Tempe for that trem arm.  Too much going on!
  Long live Surf...

Man, that makes it that much better with the finish being original!

That thing will look 100 percent better to once the Jag control plates go back on along with that pickguard you're looking for.

Think that will be an actual tortoise guard from the sixties that will end up on that baby?

That would look awesome. I wonder why the Guitar Centers around Michigan don't have such deals.

I guess it pays to be in the right place at the right time.

I know that's how it was when I bought that Princeton amp of mine. It's a 1964. As soon as I saw it, I put a hold on it.

Same thing with the reverb unit.

The vintage guitars are getting harder and harder to even get a chance to get a bid on, let alone see in person.
