Re: 62 Bass VI...why oh why?!
yeah I'm getting a bouind neck ... it's an upcharge of $150 for the binding .... but they only will do dots and not block markers.... which was ok for me as i have a B&B bass vi already and the B&D looks pretty gopd.
when the neck arrives i'll post some pics
when the neck arrives i'll post some pics
relaxing alternative to doing actual work ...

A man after my own heart! Saving this from the scrap heap or parts bin is the right thing to do. I'm glad you did it and respect you for it. I think a USACG neck with the appropriate tweaks to the headstock would look great. Have you thought about a maple fingerboard? Since it won't be original, that would be a cool option. I also like the idea of Firemist Silver...don't see to many of those around here.bulrich wrote: Why? I can't tell you. I want to restore it. I tried to tell myself restoring it (and the bass) will cost more than just buying a new CS one but I couldn't see it pass by.
Congrats, and keep us posted on the progress.

O rly? A USACG neck with blocks & binding is what I had hoped to get in case I couldn't find a Japanese VI. I figured if I couldn't find what I want, and could never afford what I really really want, I'd just build it myself.

Yes DB your Bass VI was certainly inspiring.
I may have to go with a USACG neck. I'll certainly investigate the Fender route though. I've never seen a vintage neck for sale anywhere, though if I do I'll jump on it.
I've been doing a bit of research and it seems Firemist was not a custom color until 64. So I'm thinking either Inca Silver or Shoreline Gold. Haven't even received the bass yet and finding out the original color may influence that. Most likely was originally sunburst and we certainly don't need more of those
Some examples:
Shoreline
Inca Silver

You are correct. It comes with a Jag sized bridge and no cover.zhivago wrote: no, I don't think so...

Indeed would look good with the original tortoise guard.

Really? I'm 99% sure this bass was sold before on ebay like 3 months ago..bulrich wrote: Jason sold the VI in 2001 or so to the guy I bought it from.

Re: 62 Bass VI...why oh why?!
I actually I got this from an Ebay auction some years ago. A really looker!
So I received the bass and it's certainly been through the ringer. Trem parts missing, bent control plate. It appears to be originally Oly White which is tru is insane that someone would've sanded it down. The body is super light (as other 62's I've played) and the 62 pups are really something else. Much bigger than the jags.
Still trying to figure out what this neck is. Actually plays/feels quite nice, just a horror show to look at. Has a '8NOP 92A' code on where Fender Codes are usually stamped and Schaller tuners.
Weird.
