Re: 1964 Vox Spitfire, update 04-29-2016
Long time no update. I finally added the headstock decal and I found a correct vox bridge for a reasonable price on ebay.
I feel like I spend more time on it than I ever should, but I love it and it has learned me quite a bit about guitar assembly and refinishing with tru oil. Finally a smooth finish
So this Vox Consort is almost getting ready to be played. Let's see if we can get some 60's garage rock out of it; or joy division?
It's ready to go off to my luthier.

Re: 1964 Vox Spitfire, update 08-24-2014
Two things
1- I've been rebuilding a UK Vox Phantom, and tracked down an original bridge and sold it almost instantly because it plain sucked, despite being original. I'm using a jazzmaster bridge that my friend drilled out to remove the legs and it is a thousand times better for sustain, tone etc. Not saying you should do the same, but if you string it up and find the tone a bit disappointing, I'd consider that switch.
2- You may know this already, but the correct Vox logo for that would be green, as this is a UK made guitar.
This WILL be worth the effort...those UK Pickups are very closely based on old fenders...my Phantom sounds incredible, waaaay better than the Italian ones

Hey thanks for the tip about the jm bridge. It still officially has a tom bridge on it but the trem spacing seems completely different. A jm bridge should fix that.
I'll just sell the bridge with a set of vox knobs that i still have.
About the logo; i just couldn't find a green one. Do you know if they sell those somewhere?
You made me 10x more excited about finishing this guitar!

I got this guy to print me a 'phantom' decal...did a really good job, from a photo, so he'd deffo be able to sort out the green vox logo and the 'consort, JMI dartford kent' stuff
http://www.guitardecals.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And there's a good pic (albeit a bit flaky) on this page: http://www.vintageguitarandbass.com/vox ... onsort.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Note the wildly different version! Vox loved updating models!
Seriously- get this sorted! Your ears will reward you...best clean sound I've ever heard from pickups.

I'll finally play this one tomorrow since I'll be picking it up from Luthier together with my ADH mustang ate a jaguar. SO EXCITED!
(I'll also have a look at the last stages of the restauration of my 1964 jaguar in blingburst.)

Changing out the bridge and setting it up. I mostly was a bit afraid to put the trem at the wrong distance and he put in a jazzmaster bridge after i saw your post.

Re: 1964 Vox Spitfire, update 12-19-2016
aha- it's funny you should say that, because Vox were actually not that hot on getting the bridges in the right place
My Phantom JUST intonations right, but some of the saddles are all the way back (had to trim the springs down)...I've seen others where the closest it could be got was every saddle all the way back!
