My next vintage JM project, help me choose a color! UPDATE
So now that my '59 is done i need to finish this one. It's a Jan. 1960 body in an ugly spotty CAR refin and a CIJ neck. I've now got some more '60-'61 parts such as a tailpiece & a tortoise guard. I'm also using a '58-'59 bridge because i like the smaller threading on the treble strings. The rhythm ckt. is '65-ish and the rest of the elect. is newer minus a vintage .015 cap. I've got duncan antiquities in there right now but i also have a Novak JMV set. I NEED a pair of vintage pickup covers because the new ones don't fit the vintage guard. So what color?! I'll post a pick of the pickguard soon because that helps.

how about a faded "target" burst, like this one? (imagine it un-reliced)
regarding the pup covers not fitting the guard; a vintage pair may not fit either, since the guard probably has shrunken quite a bit over the years. i have two vintage guards, and they both required some filing in order to get the pup covers in place.

I am pondering the same thing...
My thoughts are heading LP Blue with black or tort gaurd, Sherwood Green with black gaurd or Charcoal Frost with "not sure" gaurd.
I love your black and gold one, that is tempting me somewhat too...

Whatever color it's gonna be, it has to match the vintage guard. I was thinking about a proper CAR possibly. Or I can go back to trying to find the rare San Marino Blue... and oh yeah, i've got a pair of Doug's witch hats on there too
Here it is with the vintage p/g:

My '59 p/u covers fit it fine. i think the problem is that i have Allparts covers, they're a little bigger.mynameisjonas wrote:

Re: My next vintage JM project, help me choose a color!
I don't think i'm going to go with White only because I have a White Blonde Ash JM body coming from Curtis Novak. I got the Novak body for my girlfriend because she wanted a lighter guitar (it'll be 2.5 lbs!).
So we'll have a White Blonde, a Black '59 and then... I think i'll have to pass on the Inca Silver idea because that might be too 'flashy' or too '90s. Someone had an idea to spray tinted laquer over it to simulate aging, not a bad idea!
This refin will take place this winter, maybe as early as Nov. The finish on there right now should easily come off with Citrus Stripper in one afternoon.

In my opinion, a proper CAR refin with the vintage tort guard would be fantastic
