Vintage correct knob positioning

Post by painted wood » Sat Sep 22, 2007 5:58 pm

The words volume and tone should read parallel to the strings when they are all the way on right?  Has anyone seen an old JM that would have shown this?  any pics?  I think they move over the years at least one hour positioning clockwise.

I am putting them on and would like to know if I should have them read perfectly parallel? I think so, but maybe I should turn them a little more clockwise. thanks

I always assumed with any fender guitar/bass that when you look down at the knobs while wearing the guitar, you imagine a point directly where the knob is closest to you and that is where the 10 should be when set to loudest.
relaxing alternative to doing actual work ...

I've never paid that much attention, honestly.  My Strat is the only guitar I have that hasn't had the knobs off of it.  My Jazzmaster has witch hats that I installed.  I would guess that Sookwinder is correct, though.
Damn kids, get off my lawn!

+1  I always have the number 10 pointing towards me when the knobs are all the way up.  It's totally a matter of preference, but it would be interesting to know if the Fender factory had a guideline for putting knobs on...
One more guitar, then I'll practice!

okay, we're all on the same page.  I finally found a set of original knobs to restore my '61.  I had reissue strat knobs on there that had to go.ImageImage
