1963 Jag Sonic Blue

Post by afunkymonk » Mon Jun 11, 2007 7:06 am

Some pics I took - is already in the process of being stripped for refin. All original, inc white/black case, custom colour headstock, except for body finish. Having dilemmas as to whether I should send it out for refinishing, or have a go myself. Bridge pickup is dead, so need to do some investigating there, but frets have polished up nicely, and neck is a very comfortable - in fact is currently residing on my musicmaster.

More to follow when there's some progress. Would love some advice on how to proceed with the body - thanks to everybody who replied to my previous thread on vintage finishing.

I like the way the finish looks in that picture, right there!

i just stripped an old finish off of my bassVI, i used citrisstrip which was SO easy.  didn't have to sand at all.  i was terrified of loosing any wood at all.

I have used it before too with the same results. Plus you don't have any caustic fumes  :)

Beautiful guitar...  FWIW I thought the price was very reasonable too.

Ditto - it was super easy for me too.

Did you bother stripping the paint out of the cavities?

i didn't mainly because i'm lazy but i'm pretty sure you should, just in case the old nitro reacts with the new.  i've heard rumblings about this being a problem...

What a great project!  Keep us posted.  I wish I had the patience and self confidence to undertake a refin.  :)

Me too, the sanding is pretty cool :P
Times change.  Remember when dog Jimmy used to go white and chalky?  Now it grows hair!  We got used to it. We'll get used to poly. -blueavenger
