the oven is a BAD idea - the glue that holds the body pieces together with break down - you'll end up with a two piece body quite literally
You can crack nitro using extreme cold. Either freezing the entire body or applying pipe freezing spray that plumbers use.
However this forced cracking doesn't look quite the same as the natural method.... time.

In my experience with my Bass VI SFG refin, you have to be careful at the edge. In some bits where I pulled the fake pickguard up, it also pulled a little of the finish with it. With my Jag I plan to lift the edges up just a little to slightly feather the line between the more yellowed and less yellowed areas.jetset wrote: Over on the Reranch forum (http://www.reranch.com/reranch/index.php) folks have good results spraying slightly tinted lacquer to green/age sonic blue. You can do it with the pickguard and trem attached but taped off with masking tape so it stays nice and blue underneath.

put some of the hardware back on whilst I'm waiting for the finish to cure and to stop the PG shrinking
You can see the difference between the original fnish on the headstock and my new finish on the body

Are you going to age the finish of the body a bit? I think the guitar looks great!

Re: 1963 Jag Sonic Blue
hey!
NICE sonic blue! if i didn't get daphne in my RR can of sonic, we would have had matching sonic JM and jaguar!
i would recommend the tinted lacquer from RR. that'll yellow up your new sonic finish nicely.
but you have to ship a can of l;acquer to asia? errrrrr

Very cool guitar, I'm jealous. The headstock seems to have faded/greened to be almost be surf green:
I think a careful coat of tinted lacquer should do the trick. Love the way tose old pickguards go with the sonic blue. Yum.

Ordered a can of tinted and another can of clear to seal it. Gotta wait until November to shoot it though, when the humidity here goes down a bit. Patience is apparently a virtue....

Wow, great looking Jag! Looks like you did a fantastic job with the refinish. (And you were debating whether or not to do it yourself! )
What is the neck stamp? Is it a '63 also?

neck dated JUN63B. Throw it on the curb? I thought i'd drop it out the window - I live on the 6th floor. Tinted lacquer arrives friday - I guess the trick is to spray super thin and build up slowly.
