Pat's still away, AFAIK - I haven't heard anything from him. The neck is sitting on my desk waiting very patiently to be reunited with its body.s_mcsleazy wrote:any updates?

What an amazing restoration you've accomplished. Quite stunning, really.
Isn't that a Stratocaster neck code; the "13"? I'm wondering if this is the 2nd neck to have been put on this JM. Or did Fender stop differentiating between Strat and JM necks in the '70's as they are basically the same save for binding and block options?

in early '66, fender wanted to put dots and binding necks on stratocasters, but the idea was scrapped pretty soon and these are very rare nowadays (ry cooder has one). so most of these necks (with a slightly wider headstock) ended up on jazzmasters.Kent wrote:theworkoffire wrote:

weird this is, IF this was a stratocaster neck, being a 1972, it would/should have had a bullet truss rod at the headstock end, right?
well this one has the original decal and it was born being a B&B, that's for sure.
never quite thought about it.

So, half a decade to the day, I'm packing this up and shipping it to Germany to be waiting for Pat when he gets back from his travels. Must say, I'm exceptionally jealous - it's one of those necks that just feels perfect in the hand. First dibs if you ever let it go, Pat :

What an amazing thread. I just went through the whole thing. Such beautiful work and I really love seeing the WIP pics and close ups of the jigs and tools. I cant wait to see the neck and body reunited.
