To be fair, I really like the pickups I have in my CIJ. I keep meaning to check them as I bought it second hand to make sure they haven't been upgraded. I can't imagine my JM sounding better. With my JMP-1 and can get Mezcal Head tones direct pretty bang on. I would like to try Novaks to see if they were even better.

I, too, am starting to consider a walk down the Dark Side. It seems lately I'm constantly adjusting my bridge either for string heighth or just a rattling screw! I'm thinking it would be nice to only have to adjust the bridge heighth instead of "bridge, saddle, bridge, saddle..."
One more guitar, then I'll practice!

I tried a allparts mustang bridge on my jag, but didn't like it.
I lost some tone, the high e string didn't stay in place (probably to thin strings, 009/042 ..)
And i didn't like to palm mute on the mustang bridge so i swapped back to the jag bridge

I dont have a problem with my jag bridge, no buzzing (ok a little buzzing but it adds to the character), no string slippage, nothing to worry about. In fact I like it so much I think Im gonna buy a mustang and put a jag bridge on it.

I love my mustang bridge - I'm just too heavy-handed for the stock JM bridge. The saddles were continually slipping down, and flipping over, and the low E and A was going all over the place - I got real good at making between-song noise/feedback while simultaneously taking an allen key to the bridge

Tomorrow after work, I'm switching my Jag neck for an Ibanez Jem neck. I love that flat neck feel...helps me with shredding.
I'm also thinking about cutting a handle into the body like Steve Vai's...
My Jag is gonna F*&#'in RAWK!!!!!!

I have become a big fan of the graph tech saddles

I'm gonna cut my JM body in to the shape of a Dimebag!!! Have it painted with a mural of a girl in bondage gear. Of course, swap out those ridiculous pickups for some zebra hums!! Floyd Rose Trem...Get a custom neck with 24 jumbo frets, and 15" radius board. Maybe a cool skull inlay at the 12th...3 per side headstock. Trade my Twin in for a Randall stack!! Then I can do tapping soloes!
Damn kids, get off my lawn!

Re: So I put a Mustang bridge on my '61 tonight....
i found a 66 jag in austin that someone had scronked a floyd rose onto complete with locking nut. i don't know any other way of putting it. i guess i could say routed but scronked seems to describe it better. they didn't cut the handle into it though...
BTW i had a 60s mustang bridge that i tried on my 64 and the string spacing didn't feel right but then i put it on my 63 and it feels great! i think my 64 neck might have been shaved a bit on the sides or something. i needed the jag bridge to get the spacing right.
also if you're having problems with strings jumping out switch to flatwounds. they don't go nowhere!
