Re: 1960 Jazzmaster Inca Silver
Here are some more pictures, by request. First, here's the Jazzmaster in it's 1960 case, followed by some close-ups. I'm using a Mastery Bridge and it's still wearing a reproduction neck.
Here are some close-ups of the reproduction neck, which has a matching headstock to the body. As I mentioned before, it's to spec except for a few details, like the side dots and truss rod location. It has reproduction tuners, because the originals are still on the original neck.
And what about the original neck, why aren't I using it? Well, the truth is that I find the headstock is a bit too battered up from when someone installed modern tuners and I really wanted a matching Inca Silver headstock. With the original neck, you'll see below that someone scraped around the bushings to pull them out, and then they went about widening the holes. I've had to install conversion bushings to put back in the original 1960 Kluson tuners, but there were no extra screw holes drilled (thankfully). I decided I could refinish the headstock, but why destroy the original decal just because it looks a little beat up? So, it bides its time, for a while. I might string it up on a another body this year to keep it in play.
So, it's been a year and it's still a keeper.

Thanks for the additional pics! Im about to start building another one, and the color choice is killing me. I just CANNOT make up my freaking mind. I am also planing on a Musikraft neck, so it was good to see and hear that they are nice. Anyway, right on.

i too in the middle of a build, and the color choice has been bugging me too. i've narrowed it down to inca silver, ice blue metallic, or shell pink. so hard to choose!
this guitar looks amazing.

Very nice! Good call on not refinishing the original neck. I would have done the same (and just gotten another body to slap it on).

Re: 1960 Jazzmaster Inca Silver
An update for May, 2012: Time to tell you about the original neck. I've got the '60 neck back on the guitar for the next few months, to keep under a bit of tension for a while again, and to enjoy it.
So the neck and the body were two separate purchases, both verified as 1959-1960. The neck was a rescue from a Strat player a few years ago. It still had the original decal and the lack of pencil date, which dated it easily. And it had the original nut. But the neck had issues, namely that someone had drilled wider peg holes for newer tuners (and scraped the face badly to get the original bushing out), and that the frets were pretty low. I put original 1960 Klusons back on it. I had to use conversion bushings to hide the peg hole problems. Luckily the original screw holes were fine, and there were no extra holes. And the neck was straight as you'd hope for. Good to go.
I love my Musikraft replacement neck with the painted matching headstock, but, honestly, the old neck is a treat.
