1960 JM comes back to life... NEW PIX- UPDATE

Post by mcjt » Sun Mar 25, 2007 11:52 am

Alright, what you'll see here is not from 1960, or very little of it. my 1960 body is with Musikraft right now, being copied.....
but you'll see my new Musikraft neck, with the sweetest braz board, 59 roundback contour, 1.75" nut, Klusons, vintage decal from J Shine, and various FMIC RI parts, SD Vintage pups, amber tip, 58 orig sprague cap, high voltage, hi-end audio cap and high grade solid core OFC...
nitro and sonic blue await my alder body when it gets back....
Pics posted later today--

Todd

missing something here------
Hmm... I wonder what that could be? Oh that's it! It's missing a screw or two.

That post about this in the Offset section is just shameless

How much did the neck cost? I'm thinking of ordering a lefty JM neck and body IF they will do the body. I emailed about 2 weeks ago and haven't heard from them.

Is the peghead correct? How's the neck in general?

...just go to their website and go through the strat neck ordering form.  You can choose the peghead shape and there is an option for JM headstock.  All the the other little features obviously effect the price...

the peghead is great. i love the aged clay dots. the contour is nice and chunky.
i am a fan of warmoth but they would have never done a neck like this....

How long did it take to make? Are you finishing it yourself?

hey, it took three weeks from order to out the door-
i will finish it myself- i honestly haven't decided between tung oil, a french polish or nitro. I have done the two former before, never the latter. I guess i might have to take the plunge and try my hand at RR- i have a can at home :)

I'm thinking of doing it myself too if Musikrat do end up doing the JM body lefty (fingers crossed)

I'll do the neck nitro but do the body and headstock with paints from an auto store.

On my tele neck it took them just under 8 weeks...but I ordered in November so the Xmas rish might have had something to do with that....

Mcjt, I don't suppose you have a CIJ JM neck do you to compare the neck shape with? I have bigger than average fingers with like to use my thumb a lot over the top and I'm not sure what to order. Did you get a vintage style radius?

hey, no, i don't have a CIJ JM to compare to. but my 1985 strat and US Fender tele necks are thinner. this is a rounded, chunky C, .90" at 1st fret, .99 at 12th. you feel it immediately when you grab the neck. i got the vintage 7.25" radius.

Echhhh- i think she might to be too pretty to PAINT some pastel colour!
or... shoreline gold would seem so nice with that GPR sourced guard....

i have now taken her to my warehouse so i can work on the finish- be it: sonic blue, butterscotch, dakota red, ice blue, daphne....
