NOS Caps( paper in oil )
After searching the net for a couple of hours i found a place that has NOS oil caps and other NOS caps.47 100v for Mustangs, strats ect,0.1 for Jaguars.
They start at around 95 cents each,so i bought a heap
Anyways, thought others would be interested in the oil caps so.....
I don't know how old they are but thats not the point, they're cheap oil caps and thats a rarity these days!
Oh they have cloth wire 22g ,50ft rolls in most colors too.
Triode elect.
Edit: These caps these are for/from 40's/50's/60's Admiral televisions, the oil caps are 50's/60's Delco radio caps.

What?!
sealed with vintage 40-year-old paraffin (for that extra mojo!)
Why should we buy postage stamps? We can make our own.

Re: NOS Caps( paper in oil )
Yea,theyre not actually vintage, just made to look like it,theyre just film caps with M@J@ paper the seller seems to think we care what caps look like.......i always thought it was the sound thats important What an idiot $18 for a modern film cap.WTF! insane.a musicap only costs $12!vegasrock wrote: have you seen the caps from this seller on ebay?
These oil caps are abundant but not for 95cents at .47mfd/100v so I'm hoping they're good, the others i got are mylar. If they all suck well.meh!
Very little if any differences can be heard between a 15 cent chinese cap or an orange drop but apparently oil caps do have quite a difference....then again I'll probably put em in and say i cant tell the difference! I'll just try a few different types to judge for myself cause there is so many exagerated stories around how M@JO T@NE should/could/would be. It's all quite possibly a waste of time

Re: NOS Caps( paper in oil )
That guy is GREAT! I think you may be missing his point.
I bought a whole pack of faux-vintage caps from him. The ones I got are the 50s "phone book" style. They are an exact repro of mid-to-late 50s $trat and Tele caps, but they're built over a modern Orange Drop.
The idea is for those who want a proper looking cap to avoid paying tuna-matic or eddie-reno $350 for a 50 year old cap that probably doesn't work. So you get a modern hi-performance cap in a vintage wrapper. He takes great pains to reproduce several types of vintage guitar and amp caps. I think it's clever as hell and wish I had thought of it. Plus, he's a great guy to boot... very friendly and efficient, as well as knowledgeable!
They cost alot for a few reasons; he has to research and reproduce the labels and paper. Then he has to buy the modern caps, then he has to wrap and wax them, and besides.... no one else is doing it. That always adds some coinage right there. I still think he is reasonable. He could almost name his price since he's cornered the market.

Well... that's you. You're entitled to your opinion.
But...
Just because YOU don't see the need for them doesn't make the guy an idiot.

Re: NOS Caps( paper in oil )
My knee jerk reaction is to turn the page as soon as I see the word mojo used. I think it's a great idea, I can totally understand wanting to make a vintage guitar look completely vintage. It just makes me a little queasy reading or hearing a seller say "mojo." Even though that's what it is.
Why should we buy postage stamps? We can make our own.

Re: NOS Caps( paper in oil )
I heard quite a bit of difference when I switched out my caps with orange drops. Your average guitar player might not be able to tell the difference, but I thought it sounded brighter and more crisp.Pumpkin wrote: Very little if any differences can be heard between a 15 cent chinese cap or an orange drop but apparently oil caps do have quite a difference....

Yeah... me too. It's one of those words (and phrases) that really turns me off.It just makes me a little queasy reading or hearing a seller say "mojo."
VINTAGE VIBE is another one.
And of course:
RARE! and L@@K!

Re: NOS Caps( paper in oil )
if i was restoring a 65 i would want it to look good and sound good. those orange drops, to me at least, don't sound good.
