Offset Salvage Project
....or, "My God, what have I done now?!?"
I just bought this thing off eBay today. No idea of body size, scale length, anything. I liked the shape and the price. The vibrato is clearly in horrible shape, and I might dump the neck....we'll see once it arrives. It has a "Z" logo on the headstock, but I'm not sure if that's for "Zen-On" or something else.

Re: Offset Salvage Project
Looks like one of them russian guitars. I guess it would have a Z on it though if it was... a 3 instead. (russian z)

The seller said it was made in Japan, but who knows.

Probably a teisco. It looks like some Jaguar pups would fit nicely in there.

Re: Offset Salvage Project
That'd be cool.
Looking at it again, it seems really small against that gigbag. If it's really short scale or tiny, I might try Nashville tuning.

Not a Teisco
http://www.mark-cole.co.uk/teisco/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Spectrum is what everyone probably thought it looks like but inlays and bridge and head stock are a no go.

Re: Offset Salvage Project
Interesting....I still haven't seen a match for that "Z" logo (but I've only been looking since yesterday).
[edit]: And thanks for that great link, Snakey--that'll keep me busy for hours.

Re: Offset Salvage Project
Nice. Looks a lot like a Rumanian made "Hora" Tele I once restored. Routes look very alike. But I'm also guising it's Russian, not Japanese.

Re: Offset Salvage Project
Well, it's here, and it's definitely Japanese. The Jag-ish body shape is great, but it's tiny--the body is a little under 12" across. Looks like the scale is about 24.75".
But the weirdest/cheapest thing is the height of the fretboard above the body. The body is only about 1.33" thick, and the neck sticks way the heck up there.

That vibrato looks fine to me clean off the rust with a wire brush and nickel plate it...maybe. It might be more work that it's worth, but I love weird things like that...I would try to save it.

Re: Offset Salvage Project
Yeah, I'll definitely try to save it--but I doubt I'll bother with plating a part off a $19 body. Maybe some paint will be enough.
