It's excellent work!!!
I love the fact that you preserved all the original markings on the body!
That guitar will look great!

Re: Firemist gold refin coming up!
Ya, those pics are from work. I took it home and went over it with a common guitar polish I got years ago. It got even better.
It's like a mirror!!!!!!!!!
I fitted the mid 60's tailpiece, hmog... the silver looks just amazin with the gold!!!!!
I'll send pics when assmbling it.
This was all done with aerosols, the trick as I see it is to spray quite a few layers of clear nitro and then sand it down to smoothness and polish it. It's a lot of sanding and polishing, but it's worth it!

It's looking great! You apparently have a lot of patience. These refins take time and your hard work is paying off. The photos look just fantastic. Please post more pics once it is all put together.

Where did you get firemist gold from? I'm having trouble getting decent spray in the UK.

Re: Firemist gold refin coming up!
A DuPont dealer. But I had to go 80 miles one way to find a dealer that sold it in aerosols!!!

Choose Colour Retrieval
Then Via manufacturer name and colour name
Search for GM/General motors and compare Fender names with GM names. I think Sherwood green effect, Gold Firemist effect and Lake PLacid Blue effect is there among others. My guess is that effect stands for metallic.
You'll also find your local dealer in this site.
Good luck!

I just got a total for LPB coming to around £279.97
Seems pricey.

GNU in Gothenburg did a Sunburst for me like 3 years ago and I payed about £200 for it. It's a more expensive colour to do but still...

Re: Firemist gold refin coming up!
oops, that's expensive!!
You will be ok with two cans and that cost me £25 . then you need the cellolouse laquer, that's like £25 more for two cans but I had four just to play it safe (I used three)

Depending on the Dupont system, they may try and add all the wacky binders and such. If you can get the basic tint ready for use, should be fairly cheap. I got 1 litre of Sea Foam Green RFU in Dupont Chromabase for about $40-50 (AUD). Non aerosoled though.

Re: Firemist gold refin coming up!
Started the assembly today.... My girlfriend slept late so I got up early to have the kitchen all by myself.
Wanted to groundwire the tailpiece first.
Then the neck. I love this neck it's a little flatter then the average early 60's and re-issues.
..the shim
I will drill the holes for the bridge cups later as this is just a try-on because I'm soooo exited
Then the pickguard...yes, yes I WILL tape the wires later
...with all 1966 electronics
It's nice!
I really like to get a correct decal so I can match the headstock, maybe one of the "odd" 1966 decals
Maybe a white pickguard too
