Vintage (1959/1960) Jazzmaster string tree material ?

Post by lastlol » Wed Jun 24, 2009 9:53 am

I need to know what is the material of the ring base of the string tree of 1959/1960 Jazzmasters : is it some kind of white plastic like on MIJ Jazzys or is it metal as on the AVRIs ? I can't find the info...

my 62 has a metal spacer ring - the plastic ones came with the CBS era in the 70's IIRC.
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

Steel...  Also, there is a difference between the '58-'63 string trees and the later ones.

The later & current ones have a dip in the center on both sides so the strings only touch a small area.  This helps them from getting caught a bit more.

The 58-63 trees do not have the dip.
