They're thicker than later JMs... hence they weigh more. My '58 was ash and still was quite hefty.

PM me your address jazzheadmark.... I have some vintage screws I can spare.

Do you have the correct nuts, or does your switch need nuts?

I like heavy guitars. Send this one over here if it weighs too much.

Bedtime for bonzo. I'll have a clear photo on-site first thing tomorrow, then we can talk about the screws. Thanks for your attention & interest!!  :)

About as clear as I could get it. Let me know if you need a different view.

No it's clear enough...     The screws and the nuts seem to have been replaced.

Hope you can find vintage replacements, or else you could buy a new switch to get the screws and try to find nuts that fit..

Wow those things are huge!

If you get the right screws and can't find the nuts, I'd at least try to find another set of screws with a similar looking head that will fit the nuts you have.  At least it will look right from the outside.  Good luck.

I've contacted a guy on ebay who's selling the whole unit but, unfortunately, he isn't selling the screws!!  :(

+1 Definitely!

That is definitely the earlier switch that uses the nuts, and both the nuts and screws on there are incorrect (as Soiouz said). So that much we know.

I can send you two vintage screws. The heads are very rusty (plating gone) so they may not look the best but they are original at least. As for nuts, an electronic supplier might actually have some that small. If I had my JM apart I could tell you what size they are... but I don't. Maybe someone here can access theirs and let you know the size, so you can try to trsck some down before the screws get there.

Anyway, they are locknuts with the castellated (slotted) center hole (to keep them from backing out).

PM me your address and I'll get two screws in the mail.

Will these work?  They look a little fat to me, but I think they would.  From gpr, for USA offset slide switch.

I actually have incorrect screws on my partsmaster, for both the roller bracket and switch, though I think they are vintage 50s slotted screws.  Not really a concern to me as it's not a correct guitar anyway.  Maybe I'll try these out and see if they work.

jazzheadmark wrote: By the way. One question I've never asked....

What's the normal weight for a '59-'60 Jazzmaster (get dem scales out people) cos this baby weighs a tonne. I've no scales in the house (my girlfriend doesn't like em!  :D) but I'm gonna get it weighed somehow anyway.
i have one of the thinner, late '59 bodies fitted with a CIJ neck and it weighs practically nothing (the body alone is like 4 lbs i think). and the gold guard '59 i played in a shop just before christmas was very light weight too, despite the thicker body. so i guess it varies a lot from guitar to guitar.
