Univox HiFlier Refin Project - Planning Stages
(photo above is not my actual HiFlier but mine looks identical)
I've been daydreaming about refinishing my Hi Flier surf green... or maybe sonic blue.
The guitar is pretty much all original except for someone replaced the bridge with a BadAss bridge, put a strap peg on the other horn for a lefty player and etched "kurt-is-a-pansi" on the back of the headstock finish (not the wood). Obviously a Cobain fan haha. It's got a few dings here and there. Whoever played it before me; played the hell out of it.
The natural finish does look BEAUTIFUL but it's just not my personal cup of tea.
I have a few questions and want your thoughts.
#1. Am I possibly killing some of the value of this sort of sought after guitar?
#2. Were these finished in Poly?
#3. Can someone who is good with photoshop maybe do a mockup of the photo above with surf green?
#3.5 Am I stupid if I do this? The natural looks really cool... but surf green mmmmm
I did a mock up but the mock up itself sucks. Can someone help me do a better one ?

Re: Possible Univox HiFlier Refin
I did a new mock up today.
Looks a lot better.
I decided that I am going to go through with this project.
It's going to be a slow one but I'll document it here.
Here are the neck mockup photos!
This will be my first "true" refin. I've done spray paint jobs and touch ups before.
I've been reading reranch and previous posts on here religiously.
More to follow!

you will cut the value approximately in half. Since you asked.
With any rare/vintage/old guitar, I'd highly advise against a refin if the guitar has its original finish.
Perhaps you could find another hi flyer that has been refinned already, or perhaps you could buy a new hi flyer body to finish in any color you want?

It'd be nice to keep this thing all original but I really don't like the natural finish and I've been itching for a surf green hiflier.
I'm not starting this for at least another month so hopefully something will turn up by then.
