dude. let me see a picture of what you have going here.
a close up of the question area would be helpful.
Also, I think you should go lighter or darker on that finish, right now it screams USA

It could be a number of things:
- is the nut worn (when you fret at the 2nd is there still a gap between the strings and the 1st fret)?
- does the neck have a slight back bow (hold the D or G strings down at 1st and last - there should be a slight gap between the string and the 8th)?
- are your neck pocket and heel clean and original or do they look as if they've been tampered with?
