Vintage Style Refin for my '65 Jag Los Angeles Area

Post by camilonava27 » Thu Jul 20, 2023 4:14 pm

I recently picked up a refinished '65 Jaguar from GC. It's pretty much all original except for the bridge and the finish. The guitar was refinished in black which I liked the look of, but it is not very well done. I'm looking to either refin it in Burgundy Mist or Sherwood Green. Forgive me if this has been asked before, and if it has, if you could please direct me to the original thread, but does anybody have any recommendations for good vintage refins in the Los Angeles/Socal area?

Was the headstock refinished as well? Because if that's an original finish black headstock, I'd DEFINITELY keep it as it is.; pretty rare. Pretty, too. :)

Black is the new awesome. I got Johhny's '65 jag last year and it was refinished in black. PG is mint tho- I guess you'd be the tort-headed one.

I've noticed some local luthiers have been using Bravo Custom Guitars in Whittier. It's a bit outside LA but not too bad.

Shoot me a DM. I have a guy who is very well respected in the local community but keeps a low profile

I'm in the Orange County area and currently in the process of restoring two 60s Jazzmasters.

Both of mine have been shipped elsewhere for paintwork (one to Riggio in Washington, the other to MB Guitars in the UK). But I wanted realistic aged finishes for both of these and nobody in the LA/OC/IE area is good enough at this, in my opinion.

If you aren't looking for finish aging and just want a nice NOS looking paint job, there are options here.

Saw that jag when it was up on the GC site for a short time. Been on the hunt for a 65' but didn't move quickly enough. Fun to see these guitars pop back up in real life, outside of retailers and resellers.
