Hello, I'm sorry if this is not the right place for this, but a question for any Yamaha SG-2 owners or players. I have the chance to get an old SG-2 from someone on Kijiji. However, it's across the country so I can't try it first. It needs work (has been refinished poorly) but I am excited about the opportunity to restore it. I've always wanted one but never played one, truthfully I just think they look incredible.
What is the neck profile like? Comfy? I know this is personal preference, but I figure since I play a jazzmaster and am used to that, as I'm sure most of you OSG people are, I'm hoping for a comparison of sorts if at all possible. I know every guitar is different, but just a ball park before I dive right in!
Thanks!

Re: Yamaha SG-2 Question
I have an SG-3 and a few Jazzmasters, but the JM necks differ a LOT. Which model/year do you play?

Re: Yamaha SG-2 Question
I think I saw that one, they listed it for $1k, then it disappeared, then it reappeared listed for $2.5k. Not sure if someone is flipping it, or if they thought better of it and raised the price.
Personally, I would not buy anything at a distance from kijiji. Just ripe for scamming. I had someone in BC buy a G&L off me, and I was amazed that they just sent me the money with zero guarantee they'd ever get a guitar. They did get it, of course, but I wouldn't have attempted it the other way around.

The neck on the Yamaha SG-3 models have a V shape and small vintage frets.

Re: Yamaha SG-2 Question
So, dealt with this guy specifically. Was a normal person who just initially didn't know what he had. Also not a big guitar guy, was gifted it a few years ago from a family member. When he realized it was rare, he shot the price up. But I spoke with him, and mentioned that it had been refinished (not the best, but not the worst). He agreed to lower his price. He also happened to be driving past my neck of the woods so he personally dropped it off. I just got it, at a price I think is fair, and although it needs work, it's really nice. I like the neck alot.Embenny wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 3:55 pmI think I saw that one, they listed it for $1k, then it disappeared, then it reappeared listed for $2.5k. Now I have to decide what colour to refinish it in, and I'm also wondering does anyone have a hook up to a replica headstock logo? The Yamaha metal logo is still there, but when it was stripped they took off the waterslide decal. Can't wait to get this thing back up and 100%.
