Another brilliant project Highnumbers. Or should I say act of restoration wizardry. I cannot wait for an update to this thread after Riggio works his magic. You’re gonna have another incredible jazzy once this one is back in the fold.

Your projects you’ve shared here are really inspiring. Thanks for giving these old birds new life and letting us all follow along in the process.
Cheers, Clint. Glad they've been enjoyable and even inspiring to follow-along.

This one was surprisingly challenging compared to the VI restoration (and took 10x as long to get to the same stage!). Interesting that in both of these restorations, the guitars were basically complete (missing a few more parts on the JM)

Still in the waiting game, I think the timeline from Riggio was by end of this calendar year so I guess we'll see.

Zombie thread bump!

I have just seen completed photos of the guitar from Joe Riggio and it's truly outstanding. :w00t:

Pardon the teaser but I'll have the guitar back by the middle of this week and I'll post up a bunch of photos.

Alright, you’ve all waited enough. Here it is!

I am beyond pleased with how this project turned out. It ended up being one of the best sounding Jazzmasters I’ve heard and plays effortlessly.

Joe Riggio’s paintwork is astonishing, it’s so good. Sherwood Green is a tough color to get right and he nailed it, with the perfect amount of aging to look right for the hardware and how old this guitar is. He also did a spectacular refret with factory size wire, it plays great.

Thrilled with the outcome, truly. I have a few tiny updates to make, adding some more correct (and aged) screws and things like that. But it’s basically done.

Thanks!

As for aging, you might not be considering this from the context of a restoration. Do you expect a 62 year old guitar to look brand new?

If I had it painted looking completely perfect, the pickup covers, tuners, trem and other hardware would look odd because they have natural wear and the body would not. Repair work is where the practice of aged finishes began in the first place, it’s about getting back to what it should look like.
