1963 Fender Jaguar trem problems

Post by Down Underground » Tue May 06, 2008 2:45 am

After 10 years on the 65 Mustang I picked up a beater 63 Jaguar. (  If any of you are curious, the Jaguar is a far superior guitar than the mustang! ) Of course the Jaguar was missing the trem bar so I got a replacement from allparts. It does the job, however I have run into a problem. When I use the trem unit I get this nasty clanking sound from the vibrato arm mounting receptacle ( thats the part that sticks up through the top of the plate to accept the trem bar ) smacking against the top of the trem unit ( thats the part that bolts to the body and is stamped Fender) I have thought about sticking a rubber washer down there or using some tape but I don't think it will stay in tune. My guitar tech said "thats just the way they are". Any sugestions to fix this? Thanks!

Your guitar tech has no idea. The trem is supposed to be floating.

sounds like you just need to loosen the spring (turn the large screw in the center of the plate counter clockwise).
