Re: New member, new restoration.......new pickguard with new pics!
Burnishing a razor and scraping with that, is surely the easiest way to get those to fit. I'm sure you're dealing with typical pickguard shrinkage. My first query though would be, why not save the extra cash-monies and get some vintage covers too? They might be easier to fit.
God, that guard is sexy. It's like you have mood lighting on it. *Queue porno wacka-wacka guitar.*

before you do too much with that PG, have you made sure it fits on the guitar? If it's shrunk enough that the PU covers won't fit, the screw holes might be misaligned, as well. Unless, of course, you were planning on doweling and filling the holes and re-drilling.
The thing is, that PG is continuing to shrink as we speak. It should really be screwed to a piece of plywood to keep it from runaway shrinkage.
And yes, a hobby knife or razor blade skimming the edge of the holes would probably be the neatest way to get the PU covers to fit!
Vintage covers may not help much, as they seem to be (on mine anyway) made of a different type of plastic (I think) that doesn't shrink in the same way.

I am dowelling all the holes. Otherwise I would be pulling my hair out.

Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

I'd buy vintage covers and try their fit before filing or scraping the guard. I just how vintage covers look with vintage tort.
I thing they will fit great.

I don't see the point in buying (likely) overpriced vintage covers when you only want to take off a very small amount in order to get these ones to fit. I'm sure you've done it already but I'd just go ahead and use what you have.

+1 - with my experience, the vintage covers always fit the vintage guards... unless the shrinkage is severe.painted wood wrote: I'd buy vintage covers and try their fit before filing or scraping the guard. I just how vintage covers look with vintage tort.

Looking good Wayne! Can't wait to see it finished. I love Olympic White!!! I refinned my 1965 Jaguar in Olympic White earlier this year.
