Duo body with mustang neck?
Hi,
I’ve got a late 50s duo body. Will a mid 60s mustang neck 24” scale work with it?
Thanks

They are not compatible. The Mustang neckscale is 24", the '50s Duo/Musicmaster scale is 22.5 . It could work by moving the bridge back. I wouldn't recommend it.

Are all 50' duos 22,5"? I thought there were 24" and 22,5" versions?

Re: Duo body with mustang neck?
New question, old debate. As far as i've been told it will 100% work. Fender had one pile of bodies and two piles of necks. Both 22.5" and 24" necks will work on any of the Mustang variants. I asked a while back when i wanted one of those red cherry burst 50's Musicmaster bodies but with a 24" neck on it. Now when you start going into the 25.5" range that you get in trouble.

Yep - it will work - here's a thread where I put a 24" scale neck on an earlier Musicmaster:

Re: Duo body with mustang neck?
To answer the question above, the 50's duosonics and musicmasters did NOT come with 24" necks. They were 22.5" only.
However, when Fender released the Mustang in '64 and the redesigned Duosonic II, they built the bodies to match the previous 22.5" neck, and the 24" neck they offered was a conversion neck - it's just a 22.5" with exactly one fret added, so at that point it became the "two piles of necks, one pile of bodies."
Because the 24" is a conversion neck, it does directly retrofit onto the 50's bodies as Will mentioned.
Another side effect of this conversion design is that you can take any Jaguar down to 22.5" with a 50's or 60's musicmaster/duosonic/mustang neck.

I've done this before. It will work.
It also work the other way around. I did fit a 22"5 neck on a Jaguar for my wife.
