Probably mint, but I'm really not sure. I might go for something parchment, since mint might look a little odd next to block inlays. I'm going to wait until I can polish the clearcoats and buff everything out before I drill the missing pickguard holes.

When I first saw the pictures at the start of this thread, I thought to myself "why would anyone bother - it's too far gone".

Now I understand why you bothered. What an amazing piece of work!

PS....I'm all for a parchment guard, but I can hear the Pickguard Police approaching. Surely they will demand a Spitfire

It's incredible that the body only needed 19% restoration by weight to get it back to stock. I'm always just so impressed by your ability to see the potential for restoration in such total basket cases.

Speaking of Pickguard Police, I think tort on blue/green Fenders is a fashion crime of the highest order. I could not possibly think of colours that work worse together.

Parchment will work well with the blocks. I agree with will that mint and blocks could clash a bit - besides, mint and blocks are anachronistic (for those who care about such things).

Ahhhh! The Pickguard Police!

I don't think I could justify spending more on the pickguard than the body. That would be a little weird. ...but those Spitfire guards are lovely. It would be nice to have a tort guard that wasn't too shrunken to fit on a guitar!

After thinking about it some more, I'll probably go for something white/off-white/parchment - I think that will look best with the blocks and witch-hat knobs I'll be using.





...though I think that the complimentary colors of red/green look kinda nice!

I would love a spitfire guard, too, to put a nice tort on a guitar in a well-fitting manor, but I'd do it on a white, red, or orange guitar, personally.

Parchment goes pretty well with every body colour. Some may call it boring, but I like the understated look - i think it's more classy.

I'd actually opt for parchment too (I used that on my own guitar project & love it) even though it may not be period correct. I totally see your point about the possibility of clashing with the inlays.

And, yeah, in the vast majority of cases I just can't get on with tort & blue (green's even worse).

The same criticism I always level. Because it's true. No sense in being garish when more dignified options exist.

I mean that neck pickup is meh but that wrhb in the bridge is brilliant!
Coronado's are so cool; they almost never pop up here..

My picture of my friend's B&B Jazzy with the tort pg is now guitar nerd famous.

Originally I liked green + tort, but now I prefer parchment with B&B necks. Once in a while I've mulled over asking for a custom yellow and red lava Spitfire tort guard.

I've never seen an exception.

Where I agree the white/mint guards look great on most custom color guitars and I can't stand Sherwood with tort. I think the lighter shades of green Surf/Foam look great with tort.

Amazing work you must be glowing with satisfaction.

As for the guard...some sort of white to your taste is 'perfect', impossible really to say online which but it would ideally not be the rancid mint that I see out and about.

Tort on custom colours is for me getting into middle aged man in loud manblouse with several buttons undone territory.

No green or blue looks good with tort. Not vintage, not spitfire, not any of it.
