I'm sure that picture was taken just before she smashed it to bits.
This is an excellent rectangle

Does anyone else feel this thread is like when they rebuilt Robocop? There's just so little of the original to work with.
I tip my hat to you Will. This restoration makes the world a better place to live for everyone.

You have my respect; this is my most favorite tread since long.
After you finished this, can you fix the climate too?

Re: Un-Voxing a butchered 1961 Jazzmaster project
Oof! I accidentally ordered a 1/2" roundover bit. Hopefully the 1/4" one will arrive this weekend!
I'm considering reshaping the headstock on the Coronado neck - the edges have already been sanded a bit, so they're kinda wonky anyway. I did some rubbings of the back of the Coronado headstock and a '63 Jazzmaster headstock to compare
..then I tried one overlaying the two with the tuner holes aligned - it was reeeeeealy close. I moved the outline over by about 3/32, and there is enough material there to make a Jazzmaster!
The tuner holes are so close to the edge of the headstock anyway on pre-CBS necks that F tuners would be practically over the edge. 3/32 of extra wood would make things a little safer. Here's the F tuners on the 63 Jazzmaster and the Coronado to compare how close they sit to the edge:

I agree it's worth reshaping the Coronado headstock.
If it's just the tiny bit if tip that's missing you could glue on what would end up smaller than a 1/4" triangle to get the full JM shape.
Maybe I'm not seeing what you're doing though?
Cool progress!
The little chunk that tore out is a drag but understandable.
It'll be easier to get a tight glue joint on a small patch there.
That neck is really really nice too, really will bring the whole thing together beautifully!

I still feel a little odd about a pre-CBS headstock with a B+B neck - I think it will look nice, if a bit bizarro-world-Jazzmaster

Re: Un-Voxing a butchered 1961 Jazzmaster project
I needed to file the router template so that the brass plates would actually fit inside the control routs:
Nonononono. Too late on a Saturday afternoon for this roundover router bit to be too big for my router.
Luckily, the router bit is a cutting tool, and carbide should be stronger than aluminum or a phenolic plate.
Gotta run the router on a piece of scrap first, just to be sure:
I need to keep on repeating to myself: "don't accidentally radius the neck pocket. don't accidentally radius the neck pocket."
Whew! I stopped the radius in time.
It's actually starting to look like a guitar body now!
It's looking better after more sanding, and using the edge of a belt sander to get the belly cut closer.
Spray-glued the pattern to the headstock:
Got mooooost of the extra wood sanded away:
Still a little more work to do. Those Jazzmasters do have some odd curves in their headstock if you really stare at them for a while!
Hey! Kind of a Jazzmaster!!
Also, I did a bit of work on a pickup. Cooterfinger sold me a bargain humbucker, and I figured that I'd mod a blank Jazzmaster cover so that I can install it in the bridge position. I thought that I could use the metal cover to be able to drill the Jazzmaster cover so that the screw holes wouldn't be all wonky like a Mosrite.
I clamped the covers together to prevent wonkiness:
Yay! The screws are all in a tidy line!
I bent the humbucker tabs and cut the screws down so that everything would fit under the Jazzmaster cover and I wouldn't need to do any routing. Some wax potting helps keep things in order!

Also, it looks like the body is 81% original.
19% reissue tones.
