1966 mustang time for new paint!

Post by Unscarredrx8 » Tue Jan 16, 2018 2:20 pm

This was my first good guitar. I have owned this since I was 13 I'm 36 now. Going from Olympic white to fiesta red! The cost is going to be $450 that includes stripping it. Should be awesome! Also getting new whit pickups and switches. I'll post the finished guitar in a month! I melted off old plastic tips on tuners and put on chromes.. just found these photos from 1992 of me and the stang in the background. My jaguar was a 1963 but she's long gone.....

nice, it has a slab board. Not totally uncommon for a 1966 Mustang but still rare (and nice).
A refin will be worth the money. Do you also plan to replace the brass nut?

The trem has been locked in position and has a tune o matic bridge. The finish isn't original was refined when I got her back then.

the curve in the rosewood ...where the fretboard meets the headstock. A laminated board would have an almost straight line or a slight curve but in the other direction (at least on a vintage Fender).
Example:

2nd way to see the difference:

Ooh nice! Thanks for the photo comparrison! There's just something about these vintage necks that I love! I'm not the best guitar player I'm mainly a singer but if I write a song its on a guitar. I have owned 5 mustangs used to collect all original vintage.

This mustang originally had an A neck yuck! Switched it out years ago for this neck. So glad I did!

I have small hands. 24" scale and A-width is the most comfortable guitar neck I've ever played.

Having said that, I also play a baritone 25.5-27.5" scale fanned-fret 12-string acoustic with a 1 7/8" nut, so big necks don't completely turn me off. I just love the slinky little ones even more :D

Oh nice I'm glad there's peeps out there that enjoy them! I just love these stangs and I'm glad I held on to this one. The A neck was also a 1966. I remember when i did swap it i wanted a 1966 to keep the same year. I'll never sell it unless i absolutely had to!!
