65 Jazzmaster Refin in Seafoam - Restoration help
Greetings,
I recently acquired a beautiful player grade Jazzmaster. Today I was installing pickup foam as the original stuff has literally turned to dust. When removing the neck pickup I noticed a very loose lead from the neck pickup. Ironically, it has been functioning fine despite this loose wiring. It looks like 3 -4 strands of the wire remain connected while 3 strands are now floating.
Can someone instruct me whether to resolder this? Have a pro do it? or leave well enough alone.
Also, what is best method for restoring shrunken celluloid pick guard?

Will update with more photos soon. BTW I have since removed the dreaded buzstop

I love how that green looks in the photos. Due to a lot of yellowing?

Thanks,
Yes, refinish is sun faded in a couple different spots and looks great.
I perused the mentioned thread regarding stretching a shrunk pick guard and was unable to find a definite solution. If someone who has verified a successful method offers this as a service, I will probably go that route.

Here is how it looks today with a Gold Plexiglass (gretsch style?) pick guard I bought on Ebay.
I also have a anodized gold that I may put on one day. This is without a doubt the best sounding guitar I own.

Almost lime-y (in a good way)! I think the gold guard really brings out the highlights in a pleasant way!

It looks great with the gold, but I really like the original tort on it too..
Did you work the shrinking out of it?

Re: 65 Jazzmaster Refin in Seafoam - Restoration help
I haven't tried stretching original the pick guard and don't intend to at this point as I don't want to destroy it.
Internally it seems to be all original from 1965. Neck marked June 1965 B and has matching pencil marks present in the pocket as per previous owner (I am afraid to remove the neck on this thing) . In this picture you can see that the stretching of the original pick guard caused a small crack internally.
Here is another shot of it with the Tort. Maybe it's my own pre-judgment, but knowing how much the guard shrank I feel like the Tort makes the guitar look fat
I do like the gold plexiglass style, it is quite a bit thicker and does make it harder to use the rhythm circuit controls. I have since installed the mastery bridge, and installed flatwound 11s which sound amazing but make it tough to play lead as can't bend the G string as much as I would like.
I am assuming it was refinished. Luckily whatever they used (I am not sure it is nitro) was thin and flaking off. Check out the back;
