If you're not going to stick with the cool green flaky paint then I think you're on track with firemist or black. I'd probably go black if it were mine though. FM is cool but too orangey for me personally.
I love gold guitars - I had an amazing Jazzmaster made up of a '59 body and '67 neck and pre-CBS everything else that was so nice in gold... My tele is gold, my Les Paul is gold, and my Mustang is gold... I dream of having a complete set of gold Fenders, but for some reason my heart is saying black on this one. Not sure though, since I need to fill the random hole (not going to fill the routes, they're not very big and I don't see a point), and I need to prep the body. Finding someone to prep the body and not refinish in LA has been pretty difficult for whatever reason. I bet Third Coast Guitar Repair in Chicago will do it for me, though.

More I think about it, more I'm thinking I go black...

Plus, the rosewood is so dark (darkest I've seen on a CBS Fender, actually), I think it would just look super classy.

Anyone have any experience with body prep for Danocaster? He needs the guitar sanded down to 400 grit paper. The paint has been flaking off pretty easily, is there a scraping tool I should use to remove the finish before I hit it with some paper? There's the odd hole by the back of the neck pocket... Looks like someone may have thought about putting a strap button there. How should I fill it? Drill it out and dowel? It's a pretty narrow hole...

Would a tooth pick fit or is it bigger? They make dowels in pretty thin sizes. :)

It's bigger - but I want to fill it so that its flush and invisible when refinished.

I would grab the closes dowel to that size, use a bit that size, drill the hole to make sure it is the best fit and glue the dowel in with wood glue. Should work just fine. :)

A few random updates for those of you who might be invested in this ;D

I found a single coil from the same week as the other pickups... Same code! However, has a different prefix so must have been for another instrument, although it is staggered. Got it cheap and will try it out in the neck:

I also found a replacement for what I think is an old but unoriginal... It was also pretty cheap but if has a small repair. Either way, these pearloid backed guards go for like 5 or 6 times as much.

Still on the lookout for a good guard, but will likely try this out for now.

Also decided I'm 100% going for a refin. I love this guitar and want it to be in restored condition!

Don't give on the Firemist!

Strats were made for metallic custom colors; those curves look like gleaming, poured molten metal.
