Fender Jaguar 60's

Post by Andremarca » Mon Apr 04, 2011 4:05 am

I'm going to start this thread although i don't know how long it will take for me to be able to finish it...

I've just bought a Fender Jaguar, supposely from 1965, that a friend of mine found online.
I did not see it until it arrived home so it was a "shot in the dark"...

Things i've gathered about it:

- There are no electrics on it except for the pickup switches, mini-pots, and the wheels for the neck pickup.

Image

- No pickup shields

Image

- The sadles are original but the bridge is recent

- The trem seems to be on the right place

Image

- I think i can see one of the dowels on the back and the body

Image

- It seems to be made from Alder although i can't see the inscriptions on the trem pocket because of recent painting.

Image

- The body was painted (terribly i might add)

Image

- There seems to be the original schims to tilt the neck

Image

- The neck is original although the tunners aren't (cheap kluson copies) it has Nitrocellulose lacquer and the decal was placed above it (standard until 1968) it explains the missing decal (common in pre CBS Jags)

Image

- The neck stamp and serial number match

Image

- It has a refret (terrible one)

- Pick guard is original

Image

- It sure smells like "old people"

- You can see the rest of the pics here:

I'm new to the Jag business so any input will be very welcome ;)
I'm not sure about the body so i would really love to hear what you guys have to say about it.

Can anyone help me identifying the body?

I think the dowel means its likely vintage but i dont think the body changed except possibly in amount of pieces glued together

I'd screw that pickguard down to a piece of wood until you need it again, just to try and stop any warping.

That's a really nice tip, I've done it now... Unfortunally the previous owner didn't get the same advice and it has shrunk a bit... Anyway to get it back in place? The pickup switches don't fit very well...

If the plates or pickups won't fit trough the pickguard routes, you can take a file and slowly enlarge the area, checking carefully to make sure that you're removing just enough.
