Did you see the strat in the Premier Guitar article I linked? Are you saying that's a refin too?

Beautiful guitar! I am a huge musicmaster fan, love these, mostly the longer scale ones, but if you wanted to give me this one I would gladly accept.

To me it looks like a refin, probably done around Feb 1972 by skilled hands. You can tell by the flake located in the upper portion of the bridge, I would say that who ever did the refin was probably smoking at the time, but I think that would require me to look at it under my microscope. Actually, now that I am looking a bit closer I can confirm that. Camels. If you wanted to send it to my lab I could determine if they were lights, or full flavor. The holes are OBVIOUSLY painted over, I am thinking this was done with a hair bristle brush, rather than with a synthetic bristle brush, because the stokes. Obviously.

Oops, I meant to say: REFIN!

I do fail to see how that is proof though.

There is absolutely no signs of a factory refin.
I bet it's nice a guitar though.

Yeh the 'tahitian cora'l strat seem dubious at least from the article...

However...I have heard of original pink musicmasters in the past.

More rumour but have you seen this:

'Finally, collector Dale Harley told me that Fender also made these guitars in "girls' colors" (pink, sky blue, seafoam green, and pale yellow) ca. '59-'61, as part of Fender's effort at marketing towards young women. He said that few were sold, so they are rare (especially the pink color). Until an original guitar is confirmed, one should consider such "custom colors" with many grains of salt.'

Yes I've seen that too. As for the in the last statement in the marcel roy article, I don't really now how an original guitar can be "confirmed", as there will always be someone who says anything other than the usual color is a refin. Many experts believe the Tahitian Coral 61 Strat in the Premier Guitar is legit, and I'm sure there are others who will always say it's a refin. I don't know either way, and I guess no one else really does either. I just found it very interesting that the Tahitian Coral 1961 Strat and this 1960 Musicmaster are what appear to be identical colors, and the finish looks as old as the guitar. The way the paint is stuck to the back of the neck looks identical too. Different experts will always have different opinions. I'm no expert but I do have my own opinions, and have the ability to make first hand observation of this particular one. I'm sure there are lots of Custom Color Fenders out there that can't be verified 100% either way, but unless you're trying to sell them for crazy money it really makes no difference. Even If it was proven a refin it's not a big deal to me. It wouldn't be the first one I've owned, nor the last!

Hell, maybe my guitar and the Tahitian Coral 61 Strat were both repainted by the same guy with the same can of paint on the same afternoon in 61...Yeah, I'm joking... but fact is no one really knows for sure, including me. I've heard people say it's faded fiesta red, I've heard people say no musicmasters were ever painted anything but tan, and I've heard others swear there were indeed custom finished ones. Again it really doesn't matter much to me anyhow, as I didn't pay crazy money for it, have no plans of selling it. It's just a cool little pre CBS Fender and an awesome little guitar. I just wanted to share some pics of it because I know a lot of you guys dig these as much as I do... if you like it cool, if you don't, that's just as cool. I'm happy either way! -JB

I'm going to have to take off the pickguard myself and have a closer look... I actually got the pic I posted from the seller, I haven't take it apart again since I got it. It looked so good and was set up so nicely I just plugged it in and have been playing it ever since. To be honest it really doesn't matter much to me if it can be determined to be 100% original or not, I know there will always be skeptics regardless...so I'm just gonna enjoy playing it for awhile!

I for one am intrigued...
That strikes me as an unusual choice of color on an old refin, and close enough to the Coral Strat to get my attention. Maybe someone failed at Fiesta, and it's just a coincidence, but as you say, definitely cool nonetheless!
