"It was also "upgraded" with a new adjustable bridge."

This was a 1958 Gretsch Double Anniversary. No doubt the Harley-owning fuckstain who did this has also ruined countless old cars in the same manner.

Oh, and it's on Reverb so of course the price is utterly fucking ridiculous.

I always had a soft spot for this ridiculousness of all that rockabilly kitsch. I would rock it pretty hard.

I know that this poor guitar will find admirers, but that there's some sloppy mod work.

You really have to try to make something that looks like you didn't try at all...

That said: look for a cleaner "alternate reality" version at the Fender booth for the next Namm (with a tune-o-matic, natch and a Gretsch pickup instead of the John Hall will sue single coil)

If Musicmasters count, that Musicmaster paint job that YouTube's algorithm keeps pushing on me should fall under this category. That burst and rout, yikes.
yeah, wth is with that video? it's been hassling me for a week.

It's probably YouTube/Google knowing you're into guitars, and the Maker trend being heavily marketed on YouTube.

There's also that video of Adam Savage making an overengineered-yet-poorly-thought-out guitar case for Eric Idle. It actually makes you wonder, since these Maker types are generally extremely confident in their skills but doing anything instrument related exposes how little they know and how much they just wing it.

Sometimes, you're going for a "relic" look, but wind up with something that looks like bleu cheese / a corpse fished out of the East River...

More Country Bogan than Gent or to paraphrase the bard - a rose by any other name etc. etc.

I think that guitar was used to cut “Glenn Tipton: Jazz Odyssey” back in ‘83.
