Congrats if you got it, it's the first time in years I've seen something on Reverb that wasn't overpriced.

Yes, I picked it up - not sure if it has found up a forever home, but it at least will get some tidying up, and a transducer pickup so that those knob-holes can be put to use!

diversion, but yes, it's a total joke isn't it. It's doing a pretty good job of ruining the crap old English guitars market (which I collect) simply via acting as a sort of 'price guide' for people who've just fished one of these old crappas out of the loft and now think they've won the lottery.

I grew up at flea markets, where my folks would always be selling stuff -mgeek wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 12:31 pmdiversion, but yes, it's a total joke isn't it. one of the most important things to understand is that "asking price" is often totally different than "selling price."

True of course, but it's a step of complexity too far for most people who've found an old guitar they know nothing about and want to sell, sadly.

It’s not hacked, but...
I’m not a Springsteen fan, so I had no idea his sidekick played a Jaguar. I guess he’s more famous for being a TV gangster these days?

Offsets are just freakishly in these days, even with the old rocker types.fuzzjunkie wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2019 6:51 am

Young Noel Gallagher would have shot himself if he knew he'd end up playing almost exclusively Jazzmasters in his older years.

What’s the Noel Gallagher thing? I’ve heard people say stuff like that before but tried googling and found nothing. I know he talks all kinds of shit, and for a guy who put out the records he put out I don’t understand why he has the confidence he does, but I’m infinitely curious to see specific examples of this jagoff talking about these guitars

Noel who? I have always disliked Oasis except for their MTV Unplugged performance. That was a good moment of truth.
That Jag above is just an ugly Hippie guitar. It’s not a vintage guitar, it’s simply a matter of bad taste. I have seen more ugly than pretty guitars, and it seems like the Jag is the Strat of today. Maybe I should get a pretty Strat now...

"500€? That's the price of a J Mascis Jazzmaster!"

To be fair he never said anything about Jazzmasters in particular, but I distinctly remember an interview (that I can't find) where he claimed to have threatened to kick his old guitarist from the band if said guitarist didn't stop playing Fenders. I guess it's extrapolating from this point, but at their heyday they were at complete odds with Blur, and anything Blur would be into would be decidedly uncool. Jazzmasters of course have always been an indie band guitar rather than a rock 'n' roll guitar, so you can imagine him having that sentiment.Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2019 10:40 amWhat’s the Noel Gallagher thing? Naturally, like any asshole with a strong opinion he just quietly dropped that opinion when he found himself on the other side of it. If it's any indication, I'm pretty sure he exclusively uses Nash Jazzmasters, and I'd say Nash is one of those builders who sells Jazzmasters despite seeming to have disdain for their design.

Not a picture this time, but on televisions 'The Repair Shop' (UK dudes will be able to watch this through their fingers) the son of the bassist from Hot Chocolate brought his dad's '66 Fender Precision in to be refurbed, and the 'expert' 'repaired' a bit of gouging on the back of the neck by stripping off all it's original finish, and using a spoke shave to thin down the entire neck to make it match the gouges...

I'm no stradivarius when it comes to that stuff, but personally I'd have drop filled that area and built it back up, then carefully blended it in with the original finish, rather than irreversibly changing the shape of a 53 year old bass with cool provenance
