Late 1960's Japanese Burns Offset
i just got this today and i quite like it. i must admit i that don't know much about it. it plays and looks great but needs some minor work.
it's branded 'Burns', but it doesn't look like the Japanese Burns guitars that you see usually. the 25.5" neck has a non-reverse firebird look to it and the body resembles a jaguar with elongated horns and simplified electronics. the bridge looks like a mosrite and the pickups are small but rather fat single coils. it has a teisco style truss rod aduster, a zero fret, and a fender style floating trem which is common to many late 60's japanese guitars. what i find unusual is that the trem is shaped like a jag/jm and has a lock on/off button. you mostly would see these floating trems with no trem lock or they would have a trem lock but the trem plate is differently shaped from a jag/jm. so for me, this guitar is a bit of a mystery.
if anyone has any more info on this guitar, please let me know.

just thinking out loud really, but from this distance (can you do some closeups?) the pickups and hardware look quite Jansen like.

Man, I dig the hell out of this thing, good find! Where'd ya find it?
I work for a small luthier shop called the Guitar Mill that has a large selection of vintage-correct Off-Set bodies and necks and produces Mario Guitars. I also play a Fender Mustang bass in my band Parasite Diet.

Also, most Burns were made in England. You sure it is Japanese?

it is stamped 'made in japan' on the neckplate. does anyone have one of those really expensive japanese books on bizarre guitars? it should be in there but i'm not prepared to fork out the $150 to $250 to buy one off ebay.

Re: Late 1960's Japanese Burns Offset
i just noticed that the tuners look identical to those on that site. thanks for that!
i know that blog and i've looked at that guitar, but i missed the fact that there was a burns of tokyo.
they look like generic tuners from the 1980s such as on the guitar to the left, but the covers on the back of the burns' tuners are a little bit different.

Those tuners were around before the 80s for sure.
I'd say yours fits in featurewise with the 67-69 dates mentioned on the blog, but I guess that still doesn't tell us who made it and what other names it was sold under...
