A thousand times this. I'm thinking of importing an old Fender head because of the stupid money amps seem to go for over here.

Congrats on the Jag, I kind of like the weird burst on it from the pictures!
This, this and this!

Love Reverb too, Dano, looking forward to some UK love on the site in the future :)

Well, my '64 Jag arrived from CME, last Wednesday. I haven't had much time to take it apart. It came strung with .009 gauge strings, so I put some .012s on there. I discovered the tuners don't work so well and one is a little bent. I also discovered missing mute and tremolo arm, and a missing pickguard screw--nothing too major. The pickups and electronics work, but the pickups sound a little weak, so I'll play around with the heights. I have a few questions that I hope you might answer.

1. AVRI trem arm falls right into trem. Do AVRI arms fit vintage tremolos? I'll have to disassemble and see if it's an issue with the collet.
2. The ad said non-original case, but this case appears to be old. It looks a 62-63 case. Could it be original?
3. The description also said likely a refin, but not 100% sure. The finish sure looks original. It's actually better (less gaudy) in person than in pictures. Any suggestions for determining whether it is a refin?

Case looks good to me....I just can't believe a burst that fad would have left the factory....

It reminds me of this:

Seen a few unsubtle looking ones from '64

I think you did great. Like the Dylan Strat I suspect that is just an oddball factory original paint job. 8)

Check under the pickguard; if it's original, the red should be much brighter under the guard (away from 50 years of fading). If not, it's unlikely to be that old.

It's probably an old finish, but original? I think not. None the less, you got it for great price! And if you're happy, that's all that matters. :)

I agree with all of this.

Nice score!

I'd be interested to know how the pickups work out when you've adjusted the height ... my '65 has a set of particularly loud/hot jaguar pickups (they're the original pickups), but they did take a bit of dialling in.

Thanks for the responses, everybody! (Is there a multi-quote on this forum?). I think I'll focus on getting it playing well first. I'll replace the tuners, touch up the frets, fix the tremolo collet, etc. Then I might send the body out for a good refinish job. Hopefully, I can make some progress over the summer.

By the way, do AVRI trem arms work in vintage trems? As I said, my AVRI tremolo bar just fell right in and didn't catch on the collett at all. I guess we'll need to open it up. More pictures and measurements when I disassemble it. Hopefully, it wasn't routed for brutal EMG toanz ;D

Cool- I look forward very much to seeing under the hood...would be so cool if it was an inept factory sunburst. I'm really not sure which way I'd bet at the moment.
