I know man, but the cash price he's put on this is 4k. A sunburst '65 would go for 3k (that's the standard store price here), so it's priced for being LPB.

So that's the sort of trade value I have to put up. The 345 would net just over 2k, which leaves me 2k shy. The only guitar I have in this price range is my '75 Strat. It's a great Strat, but whenever I want a single coil sound I use a Jazzmaster instead, and I much prefer a Jaguar neck pickup to a start neck pickup, so I can justify letting the Strat go for the Jaguar ... but it'd leave me a little out of pocket (Strat is probably worth more than 2k euro, but not a lot more).

That makes a larger deal worthwhile. And I have to be honest with myself and consider that I have too many Jazzmasters - I've 4 right now. As much as I love my '65 AV, I have to accept that the '66 silver burst plays and sounds better. My head says to use this to get a wider deal on the Jag and the Elliott Easton Duo Jet or Jag and the Guild X-150 (which I really love ... and would sort of make sense to me as I'd be losing one semi-hollow and gaining a hollow body into the deal ... and I miss having a hollow body since my Tennesse Rose and 330 went).

The 345 going stings. I love that guitar, but to be honest it's not getting used as much as it should. Same with the Strat. I'd miss the 345 more. And all the sense in the world can't overrule this nagging feeling that the '65 AV will be missed as well.

So I've got to consider - do I want a '65 Jaguar, or do I want THAT '65 Jaguar. I know it will get played a lot (more than the 345 and Strat I'd be giving up). I also really want that Guild (possibly more than the Jaguar as mad as that probably sounds to most folk on here).

Cons:
- Giving up the AV Jazzmaster
- Losing the 345 (only ever seen one of these in Dublin)

Pros:
- It's a LPB Jaguar!! And unlike the two Jazzmasters, it's straight - no refin, no issues - perfect.
- As much as I intend to use the hell out of the Jaguar, I'm also looking at it in terms of what it'd be worth in 10/20 years. It will have to hold it's value over time.
- That Guild ... it's just stunning.
- I guess I can rationalise the loss of the AV by thinking that as much as I liked the Aztec Gold finish, I'd love one in Firemist Silver or Charcoal Frost. If Fender are going to periodically reissue these colours (hell, we get Firemist Silver this year!!) as special runs, I could get one in the colour I've always wanted down the line.

What do you think folks?

Maybe losing the AV Jazzmaster wouldn't be so bad? More replaceable?

And in 30 years you'd be sitting on a goldmine with an original custom coloured Jag from the 60s!

It makes me sad that so few custom colours survived and so many seem to have been destroyed in the 70s/80s. Do you duty and save another!

I pulled the trigger on it. Just waiting to hear back from the seller.

This is no showroom beauty, but you're right ... it's a lot less common than a sunburst D&B Jaguar, and I really like how it sounds.

This is my dream guitar. If I could find a greened out offset for sale for a reasonable price I could die happy.

I don't know Kosmo ... I still have a nagging feeling that I'm letting go of too much. The AV is replaceable down the line - the 345 less so.

I'm hoping as soon as I have the Jaguar here beside me my doubts will disappear. That Guild is going to be awesome. I realised I've got the model number wrong (all these Guild x numbers!) - it's the Guild X-160 (aka the 'Rockabilly'). Single cut large body, dyna sonics and a bigsby.

Hey man, if it doesn't feel right I can't fault ya. I'm a little selfish in my posts since this is literally THE holy grail jag for me.

If the Jag doesn't work out I'll sell my soul and buy it. Seriously.

Haha ... a few OSGers have already sent me PMs saying the same thing! I still haven't heard back from the seller (I know him - he'll be mulling it over for a day or two), but I'm still hopeful that this will work out.

I've ... ahem ... borrowed the sellers Facebook photos of this beauty, to remind myself why I need to make this deal happen (and because we all love photos of this type of thing):

Looks good put back together, doesn't it... ;)

I won't know until Saturday if we're 'all systems go' for the trade ... but let's see if it can be worked out.

Thanks Kosmo.

Going in tomorrow morning to sort this out one way or the other - if it doesn't work out I'll happily pass along the store details to anyone on here who wants to take a run at this. :)
