What should I be looking for in a Bronco?

Post by John » Mon Jan 01, 2024 2:52 pm

Hello fellow offsetters!

At some point this year I'd like to start my search for a Bronco. It will be my first Bronco, and first vintage guitar.

As a long time Jag player, I love the short scale, and the Bronco trem looks awesome. Is there anything in particular I should be on the lookout for, or avoid?

Really thankful for any info or things to consider the community can pass along.

My personal favorite Broncos are the earliest ones from 67/68, which still have the nitro finish. The fiesta red nitro is awesome and the necks feel great. I think a lot of them actually get black bottom pickups too in 67. No particular warnings other than ideally try before you buy.

You can't go wrong, i guess.
I prefer the thinner necks (up to ca. 1976?), other than that they remained standard. Try to find one with the original vibrato bar, so you can use it. :-*
i love delay SO much ...that i procrastinate all the time.

Have seen a number of 70’s Broncos with enormous neck pocket gaps. If important, you may want to check that area carefully.

That's great to know! 67 or 68 is likely what I'll be after.

Gotta have the vibrato! It looks so cool and unique. Can't wait to give it a try.

Thanks for the advice all!

Ideally make sure you get one with complete bridge/vibrato parts.

There have been a few folks here over the years trying to find missing parts that aren't readily/easily replaceable.
