NJMD...

Post by boss302bass » Mon Nov 11, 2019 8:44 am

I've played bass forever (it seems - since 1976 OK) but with a new country to live in and a bunch of other priorities, recording album concepts at home is taking up more of my music life. So I need a guitar again. And I sold my 1970 JM to a mate back in Melbourne last year to help fund the cross-equatorial relocation.
Fast-forward to a couple of weeks back and I randomly surfed onto ebay and found a 66 on bids that was all original except for the case.
Mine now!
I have a friend baby-sitting it in Long Beach, and it's doing almost a full lap of the world before I get to put my filthy paws on it.
It's the one on the left in the below pic
(Small prize for anyone who guesses the name of the famous JM it has been photographed alongside!

Yup, that's pancake from Puisheen / Mike with his Jaguar with XII pickups in the back! Love that guitar.

Wait. What? Pickups in the back? Can you link more info or vids or anything, please?

Mike's 61 AKA Pancake is probably one of the coolest looking JM's alive. I would love to have been able to find a nice pre-CBS but we all know the prices for one in original condition and I was very lucky to score the 66 at a decent price, so it was literally too good to refuse. Looking forward to getting a hold of mine soon as Mike has finished the tweaks and adjustments to mine which included sending the bridge pickup to Dr. Curtis for some fresh wire, and a new nut as the old one was shot, plus some cleanups of some shoddy solder work under the hood.
Absolutely thrilled to have Mike doing the fixes on this thing, and can't wait to fire it up through some tubes!

It's finally here...offset innovator Mr. Adams did a killer job on a new nut and setup, I replaced the Sprague 0.05 Orange Drop cap with a 0.05 50's PIO cap and restrung it with 11-52 nickels and it is fully sick.
Feeling pretty lucky to have found a nice one that didn't break the bank and is still in reasonable shape.

The usual shrinkage (SHRINKAGE!) issues but nothing too problematic, a bit of cautious widening of cutouts etc...
