Jazzmaster '63 fiesta Thoughts

Post by señormisterioso » Wed Sep 11, 2019 8:40 am

I know..., nnless you have it in your hands its impossible to tell. The neck pocket seems suspicious to me. Like it seems to have some black residue left on the non-paint area where the stick would be nailed to paint it red.

Besides that, what are your thoughts. Have you ever seen this one popping up in here?

The pictures are pretty awful, so it's hard to see much in the way of detail. But it looks like there's some discolouration around the tailpiece cavity but no similar outline around the edge of the pickguard.

The headstock shape looks off too but I know they were very inconsistent in that era so it might not mean much.

rare but not unusual original Tort Pickguard

A bit of a weird sentence, there ???

...I'd never have the balls to buy a custom colour with a tort guard, personally. :-/

At first glace it looks legit but on closer scrutiny I get a weird feeling from it... not totally sure why though.

Also isn't $12k like twice its actual value?

A bit weird this one. Loads of wear suggesting it's been played a lot but there's only a tan line under the tailpiece, not the pickguard. Like others have said, there's something fishy about this one.

This store has been around a good while, they (unusually) have a crazy inventory of left handed vintage guitars. Most are well over priced, but still.

A few too many than what could be expected?

The undercoat and the markings on the underside of the neck heel look off to me. It's fiesta red and in Europe, which would make me suspicious given the old Hank Marvin / Selmer refin situation.

Exactly. 10,000 euro :fp: maybe better to ask 1,000,000 euro

They've presented no evidence whatsoever that it's original - and Fiesta Red with tort is one combination where that's what you need. No headstock close-ups, no real view of the finish to see any checking. And I can see polish marks in the highlights of one of the photos.

Er, stay away. I had a wee look and instantly got doubts. Things that bother:
Headstock shape and back neck carve. That headstock is all wrong to my eye.
Fiesta red with suspicious wear. Exactly the wear that a reliced refinish would be. Which is what I suspect it might be. Neck pocket shows Re-fin!
Wear on neck is not typical of vintage wear. It's been sanded off and dirtied up.

The price is just ridiculously high also!

Looks like a put-together.
