New Guitar day (and it's an offset)

The guitar in the middle is my "new" Silvertone 1480-9 (Silhouette) from 1968. This is the kind of guitar I played back in that era. Probably the last guitar I'll buy. (I have too many as it is)

We discussed Harmony/Silvertone instruments in a thread here a little bit ago. A player like this is currently worth about $400. Lots of road rash, but everything works and sounds pretty darn good.

The guitar on the left is a 1478 from a few years earlier. On the right is my Bobkat. That's the cheaper student model.The only real difference between the 1478 and the 1480 is the bridge. The 1480 I played back in the day had different knobs, but the ones on this guitar appear to be original to the guitar.

Love these things and ever since I first saw one have wanted one, but never been lucky enough to even play one. The one they did with the Hagstrom Tremar has always just looked so bitchin’.

Yr obviously very devoted to the brand and got something yr really excited about and that’s always nice to hear. Does the new one sound any different to the one you already had?

Also never seen a bobkat that looks like that/has two pickups like that one does. It’s cool.

Also, along with the Gibson Victory and that cool acoustic-looking but 3 pickup-equipped Harmony guitar that I don’t know the name of, these things have my favorite pickguard shape. And they use Fender-level tort, which is something I don’t think I’ve seen on any other non-Fender guitar.

The two Silhouettes sound very similar. Strong, punchy pickups that do best in the middle range. The metal adjustable roller bridge has allowed me to dial in the intonation a little better on the new one. I think that there's some difference in the tone caps as the older one (with the wooden bridge) seems to have more variability/range in the mid-range. The new one goes from muddy to trebblely pretty quick. I'll have to do some "surgery" and see for myself how the wiring differs. The bobkat's pickups are stronger than the Silhouette's.

I want one of these real bad but I’ve never seen one locally and never found one for a price I’ve been comfortable with online. I came real close on one from a shop in Indiana whose Facebook I happened to find - posted one with original tags and case and it looked straight up brand new, for $300, and I stupidly put it off and when I went back it was gone :/
