Here in Germany, about 25% of all vintage JMs have this mod. I have a modded Egmond 9-string.
Who knows if it really was Tielmans, back in the day, everyone seemed to mod them Fenders... Urgh.
But nice, yes!

At least they didn't do it to their 50s les pauls (but they did play them with their feet and hit them with drum sticks)

I had a '63 Jaguar that had been modded to 9 strings and then the holes had been plugged and the headstock repainted. It was Surf Green.
Always wondered if it was a Tielman mod or if Big Joe Williams's nine string guitar was the influence.
Either way, I sometimes wished it still had 9 strings.

Re: Andy Tielman’s ’63 Jazzmaster on eBay
I have absolutely no doubt that's a poly refin. My 62 Tielman-ised Jazzmaster was the exact same colour and shade, and it's Poly of course. You can tell by the sheen, and of course Olympic white would have yellowed.
I know it's been said before that many of these guitars were probably originally sunburst, as ordering a custom colour was more expensive and likely had more lead time, so many were doubtless sprayed white (or red) in Germany.
