1962 Fender Jaguar on reverb - how original is this thing?
https://reverb.com/item/10789907-1962-f ... mpic-white
Saw this ad on reverb. Immediately noticed the pickguard was 2000 era AVRI but the seller claims its "original" and that he hasnt really touched it in 35 years. Im curious what the experts think about the rest of this guitar. Is that decal original?

It is a mad world where a seller would put that up for over 5K and a mad world where folks would make reverb offers on it, given its such a piece of junk.

I'm no expert at all.. but some things are pretty odd to my eyes. For one that tortoise scratch plate, then the headstock shape looks like it's been cut! It's almost a straight line below the logo. Then finish in the back of the guitar looks like a fucking wall or something and I could swear the trem plate is crooked.

Yep... that decal is way too close to the edge of the headstock. Tuners are off too right?

Well right off the bat the tuners and nut aren't original, probably a refin considering there's no paint stick mark in the neck pocket, also the pickguard doesn't quite look right but hard to tell from just looking at the pics. If it's an original custom color shouldn't it have a matching headstock?

The decal appears to be a 1966-67 version based on the info in the following thread. That and a couple of other things implies that the neck was refinished.

No expert here, but that ground connection to the bridge also looks fishy to me.

also, not difficult to fix but isn't the bridge the wrong way around? the threading doesn't match up...

Yes, the fact that he advertises the "rare" brass nut and Schaller tuners shows that he has no idea what stock Fenders were like. The decal is wrong on the neck which also points to a refin. The lack of "shadow" (absence of colour change) underneath the plates and pickguard is concerning, but the absence of paint stick mark isn't itself a red flag since this neck dates from April '62, and late '62-early '63 is when they introduced the stick. However, without the stick mark, it should have nail marks in the top, and I don't immediately spot those, so it probably is a refin after all.Pogue Mahone wrote: ↑Fri Jun 01, 2018 10:29 amWell right off the bat the tuners and nut aren't original, probably a refin considering there's no paint stick mark in the neck pocket, also the pickguard doesn't quite look right but hard to tell from just looking at the pics. Yeah, I saw this guitar before. Such a mess, and the seller is either a liar or totally clueless. Either way, steer clear.

There is a filled pickup screw with paint OVER it. Definite refin.

There are certainly some obvious non-original things on that guitar and a few things that even with pictures are highly suspect. He's basically asking a "collector grade" price on a guitar that isn't even close, even if you were extremely forgiving of a seller simply not having the knowledge of every little detail.
But even with the rather sophomoric, sales hype-ish write up he did on it he clearly knows enough... and that in combination with his obvious errors in the listing raises enough red flags that I wouldn't even consider it.
Whatever the case may be, that guitar is nowhere near worth his asking price. Even if it does have "the rare brass tuning nut".

This is an absolute mess. I'm shocked how he dropped down the price and says this is his absolute low.
For someone who owned is a professional musician he know not much about his own guitar.
I'm afraid this guitar will be broken up and sold for high prices

Can all of you flag this item please? The thought of this fraudulent fucker pinching out every last possible penny he can from this thing makes me kind of sick. For some reason reverb’s flag feature doesn’t allow you to type a description so I think I’ll send an email as well, but yeah, this thing should be flagged by all who see it.
