First things first, I'd try to buy the guitar as is, and worry about other things such as keep or not the WRHB, finish, refret etc. I would not bundle up the finish with the price of the guitar - keep those separate and take your time to decide.

I'd gladly refin it any colour you want and take the WRHB as payment....

Thank you for the offer Rexter!
Sadly the guitar isn't (yet) mine. It was just offered to me as the luthier who holds it knows about my offset-preferences.
But I decided to let him build me one, so I will have to skip that opportunity. As I have quite some special wishes... double bound body etc. I'm better going the custom way! So I already asked him to measure the block inlays exactly as they are the right size and should look fine on my custom model! :-)
For those who want to know: the guitar is going to be refinished in sunburst.

Haha cool, was just being cheeky really! I reckon a sunburst refin is the right choice actually - take it back to how it was and the wood looks pretty nice!
Be good to see your custom job in the works.

Yep, it does look good..albeit in a very '60s nitro kind of way.
I think if I were going a 'period correct' finish like sunburst, probably would've chosen to go the full 'poly' treatment, which doesn't 'relic' at all like this finish.
Just nit-picking, though..it looks good, but I would've been way too tempted to go some zany 'sparkle' finish or the like if I wasn't trying to do a '70s-style sunburst. ( I have a c.1972/73 Fender catalog here..the Jag pictured is black- non-matching headstock, of course- "Sunburst & custom colors available". There is a LPB Jazz Bass, an Oly white Jazzmaster, & I'd assume CAR was probably still available.
Look forward to following your custom build, mate !
Best,
Jeff.

Hey Dan,
I would have sent you a message. Somehow it's still saying it's "in the outbox" and not "a sent message" please do me the favor to check and reply!

I think that old poly from this era can age this way as well, especially on instruments that have seen lot of use. The sunburst finish on my '72 JM has worn offh to the point I started to doubt wether it is actually a poly or not. pictures here

Thank you all for your thoughts, attempts to convince me to buy it, all the colour suggestions and kind words! Sadly I couldn't buy it (financially) right away. Randy, did you call him?
Is it yours now or was it gone already?
Good news though:
The WRHB and the Pickguard are currently in my possession. And I'm willing to sell or trade the WRHB as I don't have an offset body to sacrifice and if I would I'd need a second WRHB first! The pickguard goes to you Dan! Hope to hear from you these days!
For the WRHB there is already a thread for it in the For Sale section.
I posted it here before I did so on Reverb, ebay, willhaben, etc. - 'cause I'd love to see it somewhere on a modded guitar of yours (so that I can at least enjoy it from the distance - or I'm biting my own a** for selling it!)
