Help Identifying A 70’s Jazzmaster Please

Post by Duppy » Sun Apr 29, 2018 3:37 am

I might have chance to check out an early 70’s Jazzmaster but it’s in a bit of a state.

The body has been refinished, hardware is quite tarnished (not in a pretty way) and one of the pickups doesn’t work. None of this concerns me as I don’t mind a fixer upper but just wanted to make sure it’s all legit original parts.

If I was to remove the pickguard what can I look for to prove it is all original?

Should the there be a brass lined control cavity?

Would I be able to identify the age by coding on the pots?

Was there any particular type of wire I.e cloth and certain colours that would have been used?

Any distinguishing features that would give away the originality of the pickups?

should the pickguard be foil lined on the reverse?

Anything else I could look out for?

It’s a bit of a treck to go take a look so I want to be as sure as I can if I do make the trip.

Thanks in advance for any assistance in this :)
