Thoughts on these two pre-CBS Jazzmasters. .
Vintage 1963 Fender Jazzmaster Electric Guitar Sunburst.

Fender Jazzmaster 1964 Sunburst
https://reverb.com/item/10640262-fender ... 4-sunburst
Are these a good representation of features at these prices? Refin ~$4k, original finish ~$6k?
Frets aren’t an issue to me. I like big frets on vintage radius necks.

Im definitely not the person to ask, but the 1964 seems like a better deal.

Medium jumbo refret would be a non-starter for me.

I’m into bigger frets. 6105’s, etc. so that’s no big deal to me.

These prices both seem pretty inflated and optimistic to me. 6k seems very steep, even for all original finish. Is this seriously where these are headed? The 4k body refin also seems pretty inflated to me.
I'd hangout a while and see if you can score an all original for closer to 4k, unless thats just not happening anymore. (Been a while since I've kept track of prices.)
Either way this era of JM is a pretty amazing one. My early '64 is up there with the best I've ever played or heard. Frets aside, I'd look for all original if I'm spending this kind of money.

I’ve been watching closely for a few months and it seems like these are in line with what’s out there. The refin for $4k is actually quite a bit less than some out there.kosmonautmayhem wrote: ↑Sun Mar 04, 2018 7:06 pmThese prices both seem pretty inflated and optimistic to me. 6k seems very steep, even for all original finish. The 6k one is a bit optimistic given it has that much wear. I think a clean 63 Jazzmaster would move at 5500 at the most. With some wear you are looking at more like 5k. I wouldn't touch this one if it weren't under 5k.
The refinish is a nice one, as Fiesta Finishes does good work. 4k is probably the most he could get for it, given that an original finish example would get about 1k more. Realistically, though, if you don't care that it is a pro refinish, you can get 64-65 JM refinished in the low 3000 if you wait for the right one, even a tad cheaper if you are very patient and lucky.
I think the refinish one is more realistically priced than the 6k one. They would be better priced at 3400 and 5000 in my opinion.

I agree with much of what's been said here. I've been following JM price trends for a while and current prices are pretty outrageous. A good, all original 63-64 should be somewhere in the $4-5k range, with $5500 for the most pristine condition. A refin with all else original should be in the low $3s. All you really have to do to get a sense of the overinflation is to look at the final sales price of previously sold JMs, most of which are in that range despite sellers pricing them for thousands more. Gary's Guitars is the worst in this regard.

Dealers are always trying to push the market up, or perhaps we should say that it is in their best interest to obtain the highest possible price that the market will allow. Some dealers specialize in catering to a very wealthy clientele, and for that reason are able to ask substantially more than the going market rates. Amazingly, they still manage to make money, mainly because for their customer base, the price is not really the same kind of the factor it is for the average player or collector. Still others put the pieces up for sale when they aren’t really looking to move them. They might be part of the dealer’s private collection, but are put up for sale at a “how much to take this off my hands“ kind of price.Crshngdstryr wrote: ↑Mon Mar 05, 2018 11:20 amI agree with much of what's been said here. There’s nothing wrong with any of this, of course. We all have a right to ask whatever we want for the stuff we own. The one bad side effect is that it sometimes gives people who are not that into the actual market and ideas of their guitars are worth far more than they actually are given a reasonable assessment of the market.
Thankfully, in a free market, these things take care of themselves. Overpriced guitars simply won’t sell, and those who are serious About turning them over will have to drop their prices to make them move.
Having a bunch of overpriced guitars in the market can be frustrating for a serious buyer, but it just means we have to be patient and quick on the gun with a good deal comes up.
