Did Burgundy Mist really fade like this?

Anyone ever seen a vintage burgundy mist painted guitar?
I'm wondering if this color in this picture is correct meaning the burgundy faded to this cool orangey color or if the color correction is messed up?

Never seen anything like that.

Here's a '65 BMM JM for comparison, which is more what the BMMs I've seen have all looked like.

That's what happens when the clear coat yellows due to aging. The Burgundy Mist turns into a sort of brown, Lake Placid Blue turns green, white turns yellow. Sort of a Color + Yellow thing.

In most of the pics there, it looks like a browned out BM

"a browned out BM" is a pretty descriptive set of words!

That looks a lot like the Gibson colour Sparkling Burgundy (which is sort of a CAR ... a more wine coloured CAR).

This is a good thing by the way - I'm one of those rarities that likes Sparking Burgundy guitars (it's one of the few Gibson custom colours that commands a lower price than the standard cherry!).

That Jazz bass looks pretty awesome.

I would say the Jazzmaster is faded Candy Apple Red - not all examples age like this I believe there were variations in the brands and composition of the lacquers over the years. The environment they were kept in would have some influence as well of course. My old '65 CAR Jag (long gone) went a darker colour for example.

The Jazz bass I think is Burgundy Mist.

That is what I think too. Maybe Maulden7 will post his opinion as he has seen more CAR guitars than most.

I don't think so. The area of arm wear is is not CAR - looks much more like BMM and suspect would be confirmed under the guard and in neck pocket. CAR often fades to a metallic bronze color that is distinct from this hue.

Yes, that is a faded Burgundy Mist. I have seen both the Gibson Burgundy and Fender's BMM on vintage guitars that have faded to exactly that color while working at Music Machine Guitars. The Gibsons especially but I have absolutely seen vintage BMM guitars eventually turn that color. Not sure what sort of conditions need to be present to make the color do that over time though.
