Re: 62 Olympic White Jazzmaster ID:
Just wondering if you've had any further contact with the original owner(s)?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: 62 Olympic White Jazzmaster ID:
The fact that there is no yellowing is somewhat suspect, however Fender was known to sometimes not clear coat the finish of custom colors. If someone has already pointed this out, sorry, I just breezed through the posts. The headstock does also appear to not be matching in the photo, but that could prove inconclusive in an old B&W picture. The checking on the headstock is a little weird as well. I would proceed with caution and at the very most negotiate a better price/ trade based on these issues. Have you looked at the neck pocket and the control cavities? This could lend some insight into the originality of that color. To me, it looks like a good chance it's a refin.

The curse is in the old photo with the hands on the headstock it is in the shadow as seen on the bass. Could be white but shadowed. Still the neck, was he an American Baseball player and into pine tar?

It plays marvelous. Pure silk - smooth as can be. Someone used the term “greasy”, it’s very true.

The neckwear looks fine - I had one almost as dark. It would probably vary with how porous the piece of maple was, the environment and the chemical makeup of the owner's sweat - diet probably plays a part!
As already mentioned the headstock has been repainted but one thing I noticed is where the paint has chipped around the ferrules- typically that happens when a set of Grovers or Schallers has been put on so ask if you can remove a couple of tuners to see if there are any extra screw holes. They might have been plugged with dowels. Also, the size of the ferrules is generally bigger on aftermarket tuners so the headstock might have been drilled out. If the person who did was a DIY job and used an electric drill it often cause the headstock to crack in a horizontal line around the bottom E. These things are totally repairable though and it might have already been done - hence the repainted headstock.
If the price was right it wouldn't put me off.... sometimes the very best vintage guitars have this sort of thing because they were used and loved and sounded great. Total minters are sometimes like that because they were kind of average and got stuck under the bed. I had a '68 Jag that was unbelievably mint and it was very very average had all the CBS issues that sometimes crop up (sloppy neck pocket, super shrill pickups, iffy 'F' tuners. Didn't keep it long.
I bet the one in your post is like that because it's had a fantastic life! The guy in the photo playing it seems happy!
