NBD New Year 67 J Bass
One for the Bass Nerds...
For years I have wanted a sunburst J Bass in original condition. Finally...
A block/bound December 66 neck, body and the bulk-buy 66 pots with January 67 pickups.
It's extremely comfortable and lightweight too...
The early 60's through to 66 sunburst finishes were very hit and miss. I think we've all seen pretty hideous original bursts on many early and mid 60's Fenders. I like this one...the black band is not too wide, the yellow is lovely, and the red, well that's faded right back to a virtual one inch wide band.

Wow. That is just lovely, congrats! I’ve always wanted a vintage Jazz bass, but they’ve steadily creeped out of my price range.
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Lovely that it's wearing its 'tan line' from the original bridge/rear pickup cover . ! It's really not seen all that often..we get so used to seeing vintage Teles, Strats, P & J basses..Jags, Jazzmasters,Mustangs & Telecaster basses, too, ..with any 'extraneous' hardware (particularly bridge covers) removed over the years that we often forget that that's the way they came originally.
It's a beauty, mate !
Best,
Jeff.

So handsome with blocks! Well done, sir! Good looking burst as noted. Glad there are folks out there who appreciate the finesse of proper black to red to yellow ratio.

That is an extremely lovely burst...
Happy NGD - though I'm a guitar player I do have a soft spot for sunburst bass guitars - I'd love to have an old Precision but they're a bit too pricey now for what would effectively be a vanity purchase for me!
Enjoy.

Re: NBD New Year 67 J Bass
Thank you all for your kind words. It is a pleasure to share a find like this - and so many of them have been molested or are so pristine they are creeping into the 5 figure price bracket. I fired it up today for the first time as I had to purchase a cab since I am in the middle of moving overseas and my other cabs are currently in a shipping container.
The bass sounds and plays beautifully. Gave the trussrod a one eighth clockwise turn to get rid of some top fret buzz, now just needs a bit of fret filing up the top end of the neck, and a bit of fret dressing to get rid of the skijump at the heel end as is so common on these older girls, but through the 400PS and this old Acoustic 2x15 cab, it's mouth-watering. And nothing has ever been de-soldered in this bass...

But aren't most guitars that after the first one.
Beautiful bass by the way.

Yep, that got me a whole lot more excited than the bass, and the bass is phenomenal.
It's just that that amp is truly a masterpiece.
