Did I just buy a fake 1962 Jaguar neck?

Post by blissmode » Mon Nov 06, 2017 7:46 pm

So this neck I just purchased looks legitimate, down to the heel stamp & clay dots. However I have never seen this 4 digit marking pressed into fender necks before. Is this cause for concern? Or is this some off shoot pre-cbs thing they did for a few guitars?

This is the 4 digit pressing in question.

The stamp looks a little faded, but correct none the less. I've seen fake stamps and this looks legit to me.

The seller said the decal was taken off and the tuners were replaced with 70's era fender tuners, which doesn't really raise too much of an eyebrow for me considering people re-finish vintage guitars all the time.
As you can see, the rosewood, clay dots, and nut look perfectly normal.

Could anybody give me any insight?

I wish I could tell you. Looks legit judging by the aged appearance, but I'm no expert nor have I owned anything before 66.

I think that means that the guitar was at one time sent to Fender for a refin. They stamped both body and neck so they would know which one belongs to which one... Right?

So it seems all legit, I think.
i love delay SO much ...that i procrastinate all the time.

Yes, that stamp is consistent with 4-digit stamps I've seen on factory-refinished guitars in the past. Other details - clay dots, veneer board (started in the summer of '62), check out.
