I use wound g on a couple guitars. I buy the daddario set that comes with a wound and plain G.
The guitars that have wound G are short scale. Jag, LP, and a Fernandes vertigo.
I prefer the tone of wound g but will admit plain g set has a more "balanced" feel.
What is acoustic? Oh, you means a grandpa's guitars? A grandpa's guitars? That's for pussies and grandpas. I think you know it.

I use Fender flats on most of my guitars. Those sets usually (I think) have a wound G.

Yep, me. Much prefer it on Jag and Jazzmasters. Gabriel Tenorio sets to be precise; 11-49 on the JM, and 11-52 on the Jag if I recall, both with wound G strings.

Gabriel Tenorio strings are the best. Exactly what I tried. The Gabriel Tenorio 11-52 with a wound G string.
Just at having trouble with bending that wound G string though

I used to record with very heavy strings, .013sets for standard tuning with wound g strings but played live with .011
I prefer the sound of big bad heavy strings but they're a pain in the ass. I had to fill the gaps in my fingers with superglue like Steve Ray Vaughan.

I've used a plain 22 G for ages but it's annoying because the G seems to stand out more in chords, and is harder to keep intonated around the nut.

Exactly! I like the balanced tone of the wound G playing chord. The extra amount of pressure/force for a whole step bend is killing though.

I think I just need a lighter plain G. Pete townsend used a 15 for the B and the G.

Before I switched to the set with the wound G, I was using this one: 11-14-18-30-40-50 the signature set. Very flexible, jazzy and twangy at the same time

also if it is important if your prefer round or flat ,i don't bond really with flat ,and prefer the round (i find flat dull too much)
the perfect set for me is with a plain g
at this time on my jazz i make a hybrid 11 14 18 from a 11 48 and bass 10 52
i would like to find something like 12 15 19(or 20)plain for the treble
the bass i can go to 54 or 56 with no soucis

on my jazz i have 10 52 and i would like to put heavier treble too 11 14 18 seems good
but it is hard to find the set i need at first ,need to search ,i use pyramide since i have switched from ernie ball (too much twist breaking or unroll for e high )
the pyramide are really pleasant to play immediatly and stay better longer for me (less bright when new and the sound stay consistent )
the during life is similary and when i break a string , i change the set ,or 2 month max but always before live practice if not you are in trouble (if the set is not new or more than 3 or 4 live session,i have the advantage to not breaking string often and my jazz for live is use only for this ,i have other guitars for playing at home and rehearsale)

Well one thing I know for sure is that I'm gonna keep using Gabriel Tenorio Jazzmaster strings no matter what. Those really are something special and stay fresh for a loooong time. As long you don't bend the wound G string like I did :(
